I went to the Tate Modern yesterday. In the Rothko room with all the Serious Art Connoisseurs there was a ~5 year old kid who walked up to each painting, pointed at it and shouted 'RECTANGLE' at each one in turn, then left the room.
Rothko room at the Tate modern, London. Several dark red / purple canvasses with a rectangle or two painted on them.

Still, There are good things in this world. James Wright
Trying to Pray

This time, I have left my body behind me, crying In its dark thorns.
Still,
There are good things in this world.
It is dusk.
It is the good darkness
Of women's hands that touch loaves.
The spirit of a tree begins to move.
I touch leaves.
I close my eyes, and think of water.

Except those red states have often been so gerrymandered, and so many there are disenfranchised, that a lot of people who never wanted these bozos in charge will suffer. Don’t forget that the real enemy has money and power. And it’s never cool to hurt the innocent to needle the guilty.

Tim Scott, like so many Republicans, loves to ignore all the laws and Constitutional protections the current administration is breaking while hiding behind the idea they have legal authority to pillage and ransack. BS. Call them on it. Click to enlarge.

“And that’s why / you can’t fall in love.” Luisa Muradyan
Adoration

Svetlana was named Svetlana
because she adored the light
and when I say adore
I mean truly the word adoration
because we’ve lost what it means
to be truly devoted to something.
We say we love our families
or our countries or our ideas
but I know a man who fell
in love with a little purple plum.
He carried her in his pocket.
He knew everything about that plum.
And you might say, but what is there to know
about a piece of fruit? And that’s why
you can’t fall in love. That’s why the light
has become just another reflection
of your own sensibility. And you
rip plums wide open
and toss the beating hearts.

My sister, like a second mother to me, passed away Jan. 12. So many people I know—at least seven I can count right now—have lost loved ones in the last few months, some of whom I knew too. Add that to the national horrors, and it’s almost too much. Yet we have to keep going. How?
