Carney's first-ever project designated as being in the “national interest" is...a crude oil pipeline. That means the oil pipeline can bulldoze past environmental laws, impact assessments, and Indigenous consultation. It can also kill all of Vancouver's orcas. Here's what you need to know:

The new program is excellent, but it is too short. Which is my point. The climate crisis merits at least one hour of dedicated and broad-reaching coverage every week on Canada’s public broadcaster. It went from an hour slot to a half hour slot last week. Maybe you’re happy with that. I’m not.

Odd that “West of Centre” ran until 11:35, then. And the real point / issue here is that What On Earth deserves an hour as it had before, and the climate crisis also deserves daily reports, which is what business gets on CBC Radio One.

So this week, CBC’s “What On Earth” didn’t start until 11:35am, meaning it is not even a half hour now. Just 25 minutes. And again, ironically, it was about broadcasters being told not to talk too much about climate and the crisis we are facing.

This week’s half hour “What On Earth” show is about why climate seems to have dropped off the list of Canadians’ priority concerns. Lots of possible explanations, except for the elephant in the room: media’s failure to cover the fossil fuel-burning-caused climate crisis adequately or often enough.

Our public broadcaster CBC Radio continues to disappoint when it comes to covering the climate crisis. It has only 1 little weekly show, “What On Earth” devoted to climate issues (we get 3 or 4 business reports a day), and now that 1 show seems to have been reduced from one hour to a half hour.

Cool, another big pro-corporate, anti-worker move from our Conservative prime minister! I am becoming The Joker Source: www.ctvnews.ca/politics/art...
CTV News article text reads: The sources tell CTV News the gover ment has conveyed to them that the legislation will be aimed at introducing binding mediation before strike action is taken. Industry's message to the government was that its traditional tool to use for binding arbitration, Section 107 of the Canadian Labour Code, can only be applied too late in the labour dispute process and from its perspective, does not adequately prevent the damage caused from a work stoppage.
Several union sources CTV News spoke with are on red alert over the possibility of this legislation and contend it will strip workers of their right to strike. Unifor National President Lana Payne expressed worry on Friday in an interview on The Graham Richardson Show on HeartRadio.
