This is the funniest thing I've seen today, possibly ever
A tweet by SarahStarberry that says "oh god read the vertical axis" on top of a chart measuring AI models' release dates and model numbers rather than any real capabilities

I do love the idea of "Image may contain Mick Foley" as a content/ingredient warning. Processed in a facility that also processes Mick Foley.

Second-screening the Katmai Falls bearcam today reminds me: Q: How do you weigh bears for Fat Bear Week? A:. By using LIDAR — laser-scanning bears to quantify the chonk volumetrically, and then using estimates of ursine density to convert it to approximate mass. www.geoweeknews.com/articles/sup...

See, we have Tuesday morning pickup, and I spend most of Sunday thinking, "Well, the trash is obviously overfull, but I have to take it out tomorrow, so I might as well leave it."

Alternatively, open source maintainers looking to earn a living from maintaining their open source projects are welcome to respond "fuck you, pay me" and produce security attestations—without threat of suddenly their project is a formal product subject to all manner of regulation.

The appropriate and legally supported response to requests on open source maintainers to attest to the security of their projects and fill out lengthy forms about their cybersecurity stance is Fuck off.

Open source maintainers are starting to get all manner of communiques from the compliance & legal departments of huge corporations using vaguely threatening and legal-sounding language and demanding the maintainer fill out forms and reports and attest to the security of their project "because CRA".

What's hard about public policy is weighing the trade offs. For example, something sucks really bad and everyone hates it, but on the other hand several evil trillionaires think it's good. What are you supposed to do in that situation

I just have it make Google Meet meetings since it's plugged into my work Google Calendar anyway, but they have their own video chat if you'd rather use that cal.com/features/cal...

I've been quite happy with cal.com Free version can still do a lot, only have to connect what you need (e.g. Google Calendar for availability), lots of useful booking controls, no ads.

We have reached the point in software capitalism where @qlab.app is now getting support requests from people who assume they need to "renew" every year and are wondering if they need to pay us again for the program they bought last year. (They do not.)

Yeah! But not just in the Lego sense. Building blocks, sure but also guardrails, agent skills, tools, validators, etc. And all of those can be specific to the organization.

I think there's also a new job in here for the person/people who create the process and shared tooling for making these types of things in an organization. "End user programming" as a class is not new, but the ability to create custom end user programming environments/ecosystems cheaply sure is.

Hello, friends! I'm launching a new project: secret.systems I want to share my photography in a way that feels direct, personal, and real. That seems impossible with social feeds and algorithms and the often-gross web e-commerce tools, and I don't want it all getting scraped for the next AI model.
