In response to people going after him for this, Friedersdorf claimed that he genuinely had no idea Rufo had anything to do with the Haitians in Springfield slurs and then got mad at people for acting like he was being a complete rube.
BillielsTheOne 9/20/26 “Rufo? The dude who earnestly repeated the lie about cats and dogs being eaten in Springfield? He believes in colorblind equality?”

Conor Friedersdorf • 9/20/26

“I'd missed his involvement in that and agree that, whatever it says about his beliefs, it reflects badly on him.”@josephgfrancis, 9/21/26
“just incredible how people paid to write about politics for major publications can be more ignorant than random twitter users who didn't have to search hard to find this”

Conor Friedersdorf, 9/21/26 “Maybe I saw it and forgot. Or maybe I wasn't on X that week. You people are unbelievable--as if anyone has perfect recollection of every post relevant to something they do a quick x post about. One of the many frustrating things about intimate violence becoming viral discourse is the number of people who will confidently declare the area of study I’ve dedicated the last 8 years of my life to just doesn’t exist. That no feminist has seriously attempted to answer these questions before.

The coach points to a player just out of frame and says, “flippers, you’re in!” Panel 2: the away team attempts a deep 2-point shot, possibly to beat the buzzer, which is blocked by Flippers, a whale who doesn’t even have his arms up. Panel 3: the game ends and the home team excitedly crowd around Flippers, who won them the game. A player from the away team looks stunned, with his hands on his head.

Bangkok at breaking point as floods turn streets into stagnant lakes
With 40 dead and a disaster declared across all 50 city districts, experts warn extreme flooding will only worsen across south-east Asia Bangkok is used to absorbing the sudden afternoon downpours that inundate the city during the rainy season. Even streets in many central high-rise districts can briefly turn into rivers, with rats and cockroaches racing out of sewers and taking temporary refuge on trees and buildings as the subterranean world is flushed out. But every city has a breaking point, and this year rain fell so fast and so hard that whole neighbourhoods of the Thai capital have been transformed, not into rivers, but stagnant lakes. In parts of the city, roughly 300mm of rain – the equivalent of half a year of average rainfall in London – fell in about two days. Continue reading...
