Well well well. Turns out the Libs do fake renters as well as they do fake tradies. Amelia Hamer, running in Kooyong and constantly bleating about being a renter in an effort to relate to the young among us, owns a million-dollar flat in London and a flat in Canberra.

We've solved the mystery on why all those remote and uninhabited islands were targeted for tariffs by Trump - they show up in US trade data due to mislabelled shipments. eg mixing up Norfolk, Virginia or Norfolk UK with Norfolk Island! www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

but we also have self defence forces. We have never exported/imported anything, though there was a gang of elephant seals that tried to export electronics in 2022. Our glacial ICE agents foiled that. So if I’m reading this correctly, USTR used the “trade deficit divided by imports” formula. And then they added two variables which, multiplied together, equal 1 and therefore do not change the result. Just to make things look a bit more scientific? ustr.gov/issue-areas/...

It's got zero to do with negotiation or indeed with any sense of logic. The tariff rates are the product of minds which are functionally insane, doing fantasy mathematics at scale. We're all lost in a hall of mirrors pretending that a compass will help us find our way out.

I was going to get the train today. But I am increasingly concerned at the deficit I’m running with Great Northern Rail. I buy a lot from them and they purchase nothing from me. Tempted to apply a 20% tariff. Sure my tickets will cost 20% more but it might mean I buy fewer and reduce the deficit.
