Nothing, it’s getting worse. akin to the mass shooter contagion, which the No Notoriety campaign tried to stress. Men are centered, women expected to react, and pushed into being reactive not be proactive. It’s so fucking infuriating! If I hear one more “it’s gotten better” take. 😤

Well it’s clear cis men enjoy seeing survivors suffer again and still be powerless to change things. Nothing will change until rapists are afraid to rape. And even that isn’t enough for really meaningful change.

And you’re super on the mark about the retraumatization. Sometimes I have wondered if the news cycles latch onto horrific cases with retraumatization as a goal. Certainly cis men and bots are working overtime all over social media to ensure it.

Yep. Every decade or so. And honestly if anything changes it’s that things get worse. Look at the rapist in the White House, the rapists in the Supreme Court, etc, where everyone KNOWS and the net effect is men are more sure they can get away with it.

“Society would be better off as a whole if more women were willing to engage in justified violence vs men, and fewer men were willing to engage in unjustified violence vs women. To that end, women’s justified violence vs men should be encouraged, protected, and publicized,” Mary Anne Franks.

We hear over and over, “We must teach men to…” and “We must raise boys to..” Over and over, as if more of our stories will magically force men to think “Oh wow, rape is bad. I had no idea!” How long will we depend on the “goodness” of men to kick in? What exactly is that time frame?

A reason that Artemisia Genteleschi’s Judith Beheading Holofornes is more powerful than male artists’: when she was 17, her artist-tutor raped her. Her father pressed charges and tutor was convicted but only after 7-month trial in which Artemisia was tortured to prove she was telling the truth.
