LNG Canada Phase 2 would double output to 30 million tonnes a year, while global gas demand falls and a glut approaches. And they want to expand before proving Phase 1 is safe: its flaring already exceeds B.C. permits. Real leadership means scaling up clean energy, not doubling down fracked gas.

Update: environmental groups say yeah, this announcement isn’t sufficient to mitigate the harms of the powers the government is giving itself with respect to endangered species (like the whales!). Soooooo a nice move in general, but insufficient in context. Which means Carney is indeed full of it.

This bold faced lie is actually appalling in its audacity. What he’s saying is NOT true if a project is deemed in the national interest!! Which he applied for the whale-killing port expansion to be!! And if C-39 passes, even the conditions won’t necessarily apply!!!!

Until now, ending a legal strike required MPs to stand in the House and vote for it, in public, with their names recorded. That was a guardrail. C-39 removes this and calls the removal reinforcement. Parliament, and Canadians, should not accept the vocabulary. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
