Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 29/09/2026You don’t need a lottery win. I suspect the license is quite affordable for anyone with the budget to do it justice. I was lucky enough to be living in France, home of this cartoon, when it came out. I can still sing along to this classic. Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 28/09/2026Is it “stop looking at the edges of your massive telly” or is there an artistic reason? 101
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 27/09/2026Is it some sort of George Miller-esque technique to make us look in the centre of the frame? A nod to Lucy’s use of analogue photography? Is it done in the camera or is it a digital post-production trick? 030
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 27/09/2026I’m watching LUDWIG on iPlayer and I’ve noticed they’re using a weird lens. The edges are blurred in a way that makes it look like a cheap vintage lens, only very expensively. Check out the right hand side of this shot to see the lens distortion. It’s weird and I can’t unsee it. 220

Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 13/09/2026I have the shitty coloured Halo Jones books along with the decent black and white ones, so I’ll buy them again because I’m gullible enough. 110
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 13/09/2026I want that big hard cover to go with the Ultimate Watchmen my brother-in-law got me for Xmas one year. 100
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 13/09/2026I admit I’m a bit of an Alan Moore fanboy, though. I might be biased. I also worked at Forbidden Planet in the late 80s, so my collection is heavily weighted to that era. Example pictured. But it was Halo Jones in @2000ad.bsky.social that made me into the fan I am today. 260
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 13/09/2026Every time Alan Moore wrote a minor or secondary DC hero into a story, he completely changed the way you should look at that character, in a good way. Other British writers did this afterwards, including that bloke who wrote Sandman and Grant Morrison, especially in Morrison’s 26-issue Animal Man. 150
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 13/09/2026Alan Moore revitalised American comics in 1984, two years before he wrote Watchmen. He took over writing Swamp Thing from issue 21 (my copy pictured below) and opened the door for Karen Berger’s British invasion that led to the creation of Vertigo comics. 172

Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 12/09/2026And a year later, I was working in Forbidden Planet, Nottingham. It’s such a cliche. 020
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 12/09/2026It’s why, for instance, SLA Industries is distinctly British as we were raised on 2000ad while US teams were Marvel/DC. It’s DNA stuff, and not just visually. I’m a product of that. In ‘87, I admired my complete collection of 2000ad before I got on my motorbike to ride to GW’s Eastwood factory. 130
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 12/09/2026That is acceptable. 2000ad looms large over British hobby culture. 110

Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 10/09/2026This is my home river. If you turn left out of the front door to my cottage, you’ll pass a field and then you’ll reach this river. It’s the beginning of the River Ayr and you can walk alongside it on a footpath for twenty five miles, all the way to Ayr on the west coast of Scotland. 191
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 10/09/2026If they had worked, we would have willingly ceded responsibility to the robots for driving because they would be demonstrably safer. That’s the nose of the camel in the tent right there. I’m shocked they fucked that step, but … phew. 230
Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 10/09/2026The only way the robots take over is if we willingly hand over governance to them in the name of security. Unfortunately, I can see this happening. Luckily, step one fell flat on its face because of cost-cutting. Step 1 is self-driving cars, but Musk fucked that up by replacing LiDAR with cameras. 130

Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 10/09/2026The helmet holder on a 748/916 is a piece of wire that loops through a latch under the seat. I had to buy a replacement as mine didn’t come with one. I can’t find a pic, but here’s a pic of the decal with instructions. 120

Jared Earle @jearle.uk · 08/09/2026If you don’t want to just give RNLI money, you should buy a pair of tea towels or a mug with nautical flags on it. Or how about a plastic lifeboat to put on your desk to remind you there’s help if you’re drowning under a tempestuous workload. Go on, you need a new tea towel or two. 396
