I have followed @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social for several years. It is my daily reminder to reflect, educate myself (and others), and stand up (even in small ways). The daily photos show PEOPLE - ordinary people who were treated as if they were not fellow humans. How was it possible? … and yet…

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers. This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

It seems to me that we should not require these words twice in one century 😣
Black and white photo of Hannah Arendt

“This constant lying is not aimed
at making the people believe a lie,
but at ensuring that no one believes
 anything anymore.
A people that can no longer distinguish
between truth and lies cannot distinguish
 between right and wrong.
And such a people, deprived of the power
to think and judge, is, without knowing
 and willing it, completely subjected
to the rule of lies. With such a people,
you can do whatever you want."

Poor signage, poor pylon placement, poor belief in signs, poor memories … the bus driver pulled a U-turn just like many other motorists at westbound Kichi Zibi Mikan and Woodroffe. LOCAL ACCESS ONLY! #ottawa @octranspo.com #stage2lrt @en.ottawa.ca
Bus across 2 lanes of traffic to turn left due to not following detour. Cars in line behind to also ignore the detour.Pylons on the road - moved to allow greater access to a road that is closed except to LOCAL TRAFFIC.Traffic sign with unreadable and inaccurate information on the grass. Orange text reads: Arriw is very confusing. Too hard to read “Local Traffic”. Black text reads “Optional Stop Sign” … because many cars fail to stop for it. Stop sign on right side of photo, road in centre.

@tkavanaghbayward.bsky.social Thank you for checking about Woodroffe closure signage last week. Apparently the “approved plan” to not advertise a local access only point has changed since Fri 3:30PM. Shame on @en.ottawa.ca , @octranspo.com #Stage2LRT. Dangerous detour changes.

@en.ottawa.ca Why detours for Woodroffe North changed? Told in public mtg about “unadvertised” route for locals. Now on large neon sign!! Dangerous situation for residents.

Woodroffe North = absolute chaos tomorrow. #Ottawa #Stage2LRT Woodroffe closes tonight - 3 months. Traffic will detour - narrow, no-shoulders, no-sidewalk streets and then rough construction zone. Not following detour shared with residents. Major commuter route. @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social

On this day in 1916, the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel was fought. In the battle, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment suffered heavy casualties with 80% of its soldiers dead or wounded in the space of one morning. Today is known as Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The photo shows an aerial view of a landscaped area featuring a statue of a stag standing atop a rocky outcrop surrounded by greenery and shrubs. The statue is situated on a small hill, encircled by a winding red dirt path that weaves through the lush green terrain. The landscape includes rolling hills with visible earthworks or trenches, suggesting a historical or natural site, possibly a park or memorial. The scene is vibrant with natural vegetation and carefully arranged rocks.

Following a plan that is 6 yrs old (according to worker) leads to a tree halting work … as does making new path curving and closer to KZM. Drainage issues not fixed (ducks will be happy). LRT-related work near Woodroffe to Lincoln Fields. #OttCity #OttLRT
Light brown rain-filled puddle on path through green vegetation. Orange construction pylons line an off ramp. Pathway continues across roadway/ off ramp. Large tree to right of pathway.Light grey packed-gravel path. Brown dirt to right and left of path. Bushes and trees to left of path and ahead. Red circle around young tree. Construction scene of pathway reshaping. New path of grey crushed stone through middle of photo. Damaged vegetation and dirt to the right of the grey path. Brown dirt line to left (above) new path shows old path line. Many dark green bushes and trees near the path.
