With so much fodder for comedians, I looked at the photo and thought this was going to be a sketch. Then I realized it was not comedy, not AI. … and then I read that she trained as a lawyer. I don’t usually swear … but WTF, USA? Keep it on your side of the border!

Open-concept classroom meant only a sliding “wall” between me and an ultra quiet teacher. Of course, as the new staff, I was in the “back” of the classroom. We had to walk through the other class to get to my “room”.

I failed in 1995 (at Mike Harris’ former school). Late French Immersion, 34 & 36 sts, gr 7&8, cross-curricular teaching expected, open-concept classroom. Only 2 other teachers in school board w/ same program. 18 sts in their classes. Very few contracts available … but I quit mine by Nov.

Do you have a break immediately after that or are you back into full-on mode?!! You are giving me flashbacks to “teaching” JK/SK gym time in a September (as a J/I teacher, nonparent at the time). My heart is racing, my hands are clammy!! I do hope your club is joyful and that you recover quickly!

… but, but … the bike lanes are always empty … 🤪 I envy the speed of the cyclists whizzing past me in my car in the creeping line of traffic - taking my kid to out-of-area school that we thought we could access by transit (both kids will have graduated by time LRT is finished).

Could we work to finish up existing projects rather than dragging them out for ANOTHER year?

Densification of neighbourhoods along the not-yet-finished LRT… which creates more Ottawa residents … but no more pools/ community centres/ libraries/ arenas. Non-residents are not the issue. Lack of opportunity for residents is the real issue!

Kids = one of the main causes of illness (I say from my extensive experience as a teacher/ parent). Not just young kids! My 2nd-yr university kid shared something nasty after only a few days in her house. Gr12 kid shared … and reshared the never-ending virus that has been the theme of Sept.

Very good point! I assumed “super” b/c of fewer syllables and easier spelling … but, “super” doesn’t quite cut it … BUT “super-er” sure does! You are a bigly genius!

Honestly, when joined Bluesky (invitation process), I followed media/ reporters that I had followed on Bird site. No longer teaching = less educational follows. Moved to a big city so urban planning learning. I had no idea that BlueSky had so much more! Closest I’ve felt to being American! 😬🫢😢😳😢

Hockey boys in small town Ontario. … whose fathers were hockey boys in the same small towns. Who run generational businesses in the town. Goes without saying that they are white. Big fish in a small pond = toxic and dangerous.

Yes, I agree w/ you (w/o research beyond husband!). He sees that he studied engineering, became engineer. Makes practical/ financial sense. I see … not enough business/ psychology/ history classes for his multiple roles engineer, business owner, parent, human. There has been a cost to that, too.

My engineer husband had only taken one mandatory high school Canadian history course. I introduced him to the bigger world of the past … that connects to the present (and possible future!). He continues to be blown away by the connections that reach through to today.

Sigh… I wish I understood the appeal. I read large excerpts of an Eng translation … while supporting my son through Eng Lit. We both enjoyed the book better. Sigh. We both wanted to LOVE the movie … but it dragged, missed good bits, and then the power went out about 20 min from end. Sigh again!

Changing from “first past the post” system would allow some positive changes! The majority of the overall population has not voted for the conservatives…. And yet, here we are. Sending you strength for living in Alberta…., send it back if my daughter goes to AB for ranch/ horse job!

Sorry!! Missed the alt text … the images are three children’s books about teasing or joking as not-funny bullying. The titles are “Just Kidding” by Trudy Ludwig and Adam Gustavson, “Teasing Isn’t Funny” by Melissa Higgins and Simone Shim, “Just Joking” by Andy Griffiths.

A former premier - Mike Harris- set our province on this path. Just like Trump and cronies, it’s been a long-slow burning of education, healthcare, and feeding the flames of corruption … while making financial decisions that benefit buddies.

Our provincial govt (Ontario) follows this model! … it works well to keep those pesky opposition MPP’s from having a chance to speak officially…. While our tax dollars are used to flood media sources with questionable advertising about our provincial govt saving us from teachers and the homeless.

It’s only been two years of construction to replace the underground infrastructure in a short section of Richmond…. If it is done before winter this year.

We bought our house for its proximity to transit…. However, still waiting for LRT to finish … well past its anticipated completion date. Both kids will have graduated from high school w/o using LRT to get to schools (not in our local neighbourhood). Sigh.

This fire hydrant has now been relocated to the dividing line between the brand new sidewalk and the cycling lane. There is at least one more like this. Still a hazard. I would love to put planter boxes (made by my teen) so more visible/ beautiful/ green! Ward 7
Yellow fire hydrant in the middle of a new sidewalk.

Obviously the road isn’t “closed” … there is space to squeeze through. Just like Barrhaven is “local” (Local traffic only) to Woodroffe North. Multiple road closed signs are not enough - need to circle the neighbourhood and then ask a pedestrian if the road is REALLY closed!

I would be interested in seeing data that compares high school attendance between semestered schools and schools with full-year courses. … and funding for more cross-curricular learning, hands-on technical courses, fewer English classes or more emphasis on different aspects of English.

Ottawa River looking towards Aylmer, QC. No special effects! We get impressive sunsets … and impressive storms blowing in along the river! The sun is still very much to the north, but we track its changing position with so many sunset photos throughout the year!
Sunset of vivid orange reflected in the river. Clouds are creating a textured sky and black silhouettes of trees are in the foreground.

My son had a high school teacher who taught at the picnic table under the trees … until it was too cold/ snowy! 4 students - Intro to Philosophy - was a great learning experience - great for reading/ discussing!

One of my professors scheduled some of our seminars at “The Grad House” - a cafe/ pub that was only available to graduate students (we were undergrad). He would buy one round of drinks - choice of alcohol/ non. He felt it was a better place to discuss than a classroom!

Just wait until he finds another area of intense interest that is different from yours! I now keep up on F1 news, races, and attend the Grand Prix in MTL! So many statistics, details, science, and strategies! So much learning and staggering level of detail to try to keep up with!

How regional sounding is the French? I spent a couple of weeks brushing up on my French this spring - but France French. I did my immersion in France in university and I don’t know how well I would do trying to learn a different accent.

I don’t think my dog appreciated all my hours of practising the clarinet, tenor sax, and bassoon for the bands at high school. … or perhaps he loved them and was singing along! No reaction to piano!

We have now adopted the motto of “Elbows Up” … despite being a fairly calm, peace-loving country. … and why I buy into the motto despite being a non-hockey-watching CDN (shhh …!). Was already not a US fan - the exceptionalism, inhumane lack of social services!

Hmmm … might mention this at our next neighbourhood assoc. meeting! How do we get crosswalks and speed bumps painted??!!! Any tips?

Sippingchai @jcraddock.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
You could get some orange spray paint to trace around all those asphalt patches! It would save the city some time. The patches on the sidewalks on Woodroffe are all gone after one year.
