One week to go until International #Repair Day. See here: repairday.org I probably get more pleasure from fixing, restoring or fettling something than I do from making something. Recently restored a ratchet screwdriver I remember my dad buying when I was about 5 years old. Deeply rewarding.

Building a distributed, privacy-preserving way of doing this - stewarded by an internal team, not defaulting to single massive suppliers - would be hard but not impossible and super interesting. It would be amazing if Burnham could invest a bit of bravery in this.

It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

Capitalism, in a nutshell.
A clipping from CNN business stating that companies invented solutions in search of problems people didn't have.

The article is about the dehumanising of the shopping/eating out experience by the introduction of touchscreens, self-checkout and the like, and a supposed rejection of them.

When I lived in the UK none of my concerns e.g. affordable housing, climate action, increases in welfare spending, scrapping tuition fees, an ethical foreign policy, were ever framed as legitimate concerns. lnstead I was routinely told to fuck off by most political parties for having such concerns.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.
