Wow! Former LA city heat officer Marta Segura brings receipts after Karen Bass' statements in last week's environmental policy mayoral debate. Bass said Segura was removed due to her office's supposed failure to complete a climate action plan. Read here: martaspeaks.medium.com/the-real-cit...
What the record shows
Three facts, all in public documents linked at the end. 1. The ordinance that created my office never assigned the Climate Action
and Adaptation Plan to CEMO. 2. When the City funded that plan in 2024, the $1.5 million went to the City Administrative Officer to hire a consultant to get it done through our CAO's budget office, and a Climate Impact Team was created there. This
Mayor signed that budget. 3. The Mayor's own climate plan, published in April 2026, states that the CAO's budget office was instructed to develop the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. (A consultant also created this, with minimal
community input.) So the Mayor put the climate plan in another department, paid for it there, and wrote that decision into her own climate plan. Then, at the forum, she said my office failed to finish it, when it was never our assignment, and gave that as the reason to cut the office and remove the founding Chief Heat
Officer. Both accounts cannot be true.

Mayor Bass is pushing the state legislature to put into *state law* that cities with over 2 million people (only LA) cannot reduce the # of car lanes of a road that leads into a cemetery without mayoral approval. Just to kill this desperately needed bike lane project.

Los Angeles is failing people with disabilities. When the city neglects the basics, everyone suffers, but the people who need these services most are hit the hardest. (1/2)
Bold text states 250,000 Angelenos under 65 live with a disability. Three people with visible disabilities appear beside the text. Nithya Raman for Mayor logo at bottom.A woman in a wheelchair sits in front of text highlighting LA's 30,000 sidewalk repair requests and the impact on wheelchair users, the blind, and seniors.Colorful poster reads “Disabled Angelenos have long waits for accessible paratransit and limited accessible uber availability” with standing walker figure.Yellow poster with “Even finding a place to live is a problem. Let's hope the city comes up with more concrete ways to honor disabled athletes, like a commitment to fixing sidewalks and installing curb ramps — as megaevent czar Paul Krekorian said, an accessibility plan is coming. I'd also like to note the length of Olympic Boulevard vs. Paralympic Way
A map of the entire length of Olympic Boulevard in LA, the former 10th Street, which stretches pretty much across the center of the entire city39th Street between Figueroa and Main shows up as a very very tiny section on the same map

Here's how: dedicate a portion of property taxes to HSR infrastructure with Enhanced Infrastructure Financing Districts (EIFDs) at HSR stations in LA County (Palmdale, Burbank, LAUS). Since HSR increases land values, this generates $16B for HSR w/o raising taxes AND more $ for the general fund.
Bar chart. Under no EIFD Baseline, the general fund is 303.3 Billion Under the High Confidence Scenario, there is an EIFD Capture of 30% of the general fund, which is $16 Billion for HSR. The remaining 70% of the general fund is $36.8 Billion, a net increase in revenue of $6.5B. All dollar amounts in Net Present Value (3% discount)
