But the craziest part to me is that Metro is spending nearly $1 billion to extend the A line one stop that’s already served by Metrolink, using $800 million in SB 125 transit bailout funds meant to preserve service through COVID

Wow! Former LA city heat officer Marta Segura brings receipts after Karen Bass' statements in last week's environmental policy mayoral debate. Bass said Segura was removed due to her office's supposed failure to complete a climate action plan. Read here: martaspeaks.medium.com/the-real-cit...
What the record shows
Three facts, all in public documents linked at the end. 1. The ordinance that created my office never assigned the Climate Action
and Adaptation Plan to CEMO. 2. When the City funded that plan in 2024, the $1.5 million went to the City Administrative Officer to hire a consultant to get it done through our CAO's budget office, and a Climate Impact Team was created there. This
Mayor signed that budget. 3. The Mayor's own climate plan, published in April 2026, states that the CAO's budget office was instructed to develop the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. (A consultant also created this, with minimal
community input.) So the Mayor put the climate plan in another department, paid for it there, and wrote that decision into her own climate plan. Then, at the forum, she said my office failed to finish it, when it was never our assignment, and gave that as the reason to cut the office and remove the founding Chief Heat
Officer. Both accounts cannot be true.

Mayor Bass is pushing the state legislature to put into *state law* that cities with over 2 million people (only LA) cannot reduce the # of car lanes of a road that leads into a cemetery without mayoral approval. Just to kill this desperately needed bike lane project.

Alternatively, we could limit vehicle traffic on Broadway while still allowing high quality transit and local business access. There are examples of successful Transit Malls in SF, Seattle, Portland, and more Between 3-4th (Grand Central Market) is the no-brainer spot to test this

What's wild is that Metro is doing all of this to preserve street parking in what is probably the most walkable and transit rich area in all of LA. If you remove the parking, then you can keep the entire pedestrianized seating area

Some advocated have been asking Metro to stick bus lanes on a parallel street, like Hill, but IMO that's a bad idea, mostly because it makes turning onto Cesar Chavez to get to Sunset or Union Station very awkward due to the grade separation. It would slow down the BRT

Even worse, these improvements were a rehearsal for LA's long delayed Broadway Streetscape Plan. This would have expanded the sidewalk space permanently Instead, funding for Broadway Streetscape plan is now planning on being spent to remove pedestrian space and help build the bus lanes!

Metro is saying that that there isn't enough room to fit two bus lanes along with travel lanes and parking, and that the wider pedestrianized area need to be shrunk in half (this effectively means no outdoor dining). Screenshots from a presentation last Monday

Metro is finally working on their Broadway "quick-build" BRT (5 years ago this was supposed to be a 2 year project). Overall it'll be a massive improvement for transit riders, but in DTLA Metro is proposing shrinking pedestrianized space which is a big issue

Los Angeles is failing people with disabilities. When the city neglects the basics, everyone suffers, but the people who need these services most are hit the hardest. (1/2)

Let's hope the city comes up with more concrete ways to honor disabled athletes, like a commitment to fixing sidewalks and installing curb ramps — as megaevent czar Paul Krekorian said, an accessibility plan is coming. I'd also like to note the length of Olympic Boulevard vs. Paralympic Way

There’s some nuance the video doesn’t touch but the short answer is LA is both broke and underinvesting in maintenance. Last budget only funded 300 curb ramps, allowing ~60 lane miles of repaving (City has over 25k) We are also terrible at delivering the ramps efficiently which is its own problem
