The NYC Council allocated $3 million to Penn South in this year's budget to fund upgrades that will make residents’ lives more comfortable and secure. This investment will help older residents stay in the community and ensure that younger families can enjoy their homes for decades to come.

As NYC Climate Week comes to a close, we're shouting out the climate leaders we recently celebrated — the people who have been on the frontlines fighting for progress. And it’s so important that we all join the fight for climate and environmental justice: our kids are all counting on us!

Too many New Yorkers’ pets suffer from a lack of food and the overcrowding of animal shelters. The NYC Council has allocated $1.5M to invest in pet food pantries and free and low-cost spay and neuter treatments. We will continue to fight for animals and the families that love and care for them.

Harlem showed up. 🖤💚❤️ The first African American Day Parade stepped off in Harlem in 1969. Fifty-seven years later, it's still one of the largest Black parades in America. The Council was so proud to march on Sunday.

The NYC Council is investing $24 million in the construction of Ittner Park Place. That means new parks, recreation, and revitalized green space under the Cross Bronx Expressway. And even better — we’re launching the Park Neighborhood Plan to make sure that these changes are accessible to everyone.

Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. We remember the 2,977 lives taken from us, the extraordinary courage of the heroes who answered the call, and the resilience of New Yorkers in the days and years that followed. We will never forget.

Researchers from Cornell Tech are using advanced AI and aerial data to map individual trees and the cooling effect they have on our city to find new solutions for beating the heat. By determining how much shade is delivered to specific sidewalks, we can identify our most vulnerable areas.
