Bit more niche but also you don't need to be sworn in by the speaker *at all* after an election. You do if you are elected mid-session (by house rules) but immediately after the election you are sworn by the speaker elect by convention, not by requirement

Oil tanker captains are being paid $100,000 a month to travel through the Strait of Hormuz, with an extra $50,000 in "danger money" for each trip, as shipowners try to keep crude flowing even as Iran steps up its assaults on vessels. Read today's FT exclusive on #FTEdit 👉 ft.trib.al/yLYIzU4
Map shows six reported tanker attacks around the Strait of Hormuz between September 29 and October 6, 2026.Two bar charts show estimated daily ship transits into and out of the Gulf from January to October. Traffic plunges after the Iran war begins, partially recovers around July after an MOU is signed, but remains well below pre-war levels.

The Ohio Arena was already full to the brim — And yet these people were still trying to get in. The New York Times said, “There were empty seats” when, in fact, there were none, and thousands of people had to be turned away. The New York Times, and many other Artificial Media Outlets, should be arrested for their dishonesty and disservice to our Country. Tom Tugendhat in Sunday Times insists on leaving the ECHR to tackle “soaring” immigration. What a miserable rat. Lying to us all. Betraying our country’s best interests. Threatening to flounce out of our human rights framework, trashing our treaties and torching our protection from abuses of power.
The Tories are planning to make the ECHR a dividing line at the next election. Last week the party announced plans to deport every foreign criminal, apart from those convicted of the most trivial offences, and said their plan for ECHR withdrawal meant only the Conservatives were equipped to take on the problem of soaring immigration. One of the problems withdrawal would create is a legal dispute over whether it breaches the Good Friday agreement, which committed the UK to fully incorporate the ECHR into Northern Ireland's justice system. Tugendhat said the issue had not yet been raised in his conversations with lawmakers in the US, adding:
"There's a lot of work to be done."
