As I have posted elsewhere, I have just come back from a trip to the Netherlands where I fulfilled an ambition to visit Hilversum Town Hall. I will try and write something for my website in it shortly, but in the meantime here are some pics:
The Town Hall lit up at night.
Per Wikipedia: Somewhat reminiscent of the early designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Town Hall building consists of two squares; an inner courtyard surrounded by offices and a second courtyard surrounded by low spaces and traversed by a service road. This remarkable and in many ways unique structure was completed in 1931, by which time Dudok was Hilversum's Municipal Architect, and was enthusiastically embraced by the people of Hilversum for its balance between form and function, fine workmanship and high quality finishes and materials used. Some critics, however, accused Dudok of diluting modernist designs and being halfway modernist, lacking a specific style. However, the result is considered by many to be a testament to the consistent harmonic form, function, art and human need. Hilversum Town Hall is one of the most successful buildings in the history of the modernist movement.Part of the main entrance passageway lit up at night. A prominent feature on the right hand side is a wall of stunning blue tiling. The Council chamber featuring furniture designed by Dudok. The entrance to the main public hall flanked either side by lit columns. The view is of the side aisle that runs down the edge of the public hall, separated from the main hall space by a colonnade of golden-tiled pillars. The ceiling has a long row of lights receding into the distance which reflect in the polished marble floor. At the end of the aisle, and in the distance (the vanishing point of the picture) is a red door that leads to the main room where marriage ceremonies are conducted.

A 1948 London County Council “Open Air Entertainments” brochure produced by the Council’s Parks Department. The LCC’s parks transferred to the GLC in 1965 but the 1970s saw a further transfer of a number of them to various London Boroughs, well before abolition of the Authority was on the cards.
The cover is red and cream and features abstract-lite representations of people engaging in leisure activities drawn in red lines.

In 1951, the Middlesex Borough of Ealing celebrated its Golden Jubilee. The rather grand Gothic Revival style of the town hall is reminiscent of a Northern city rather than typical London fare, a statement of ambition for this large authority which had (doomed) designs on County Borough status.
The cover is dark blue. The Council’s coat of arms and the title “EALING 1901-1951” are printed in gold.

It was opened by the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor A E Cobbin J. P., in October 1933.

Per Wikipedia: The new building, which was designed by Charles Jones and in the same style [as its predecessor] but on a much larger scale, was built by Hugh Knight and officially opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales on 15 December 1888. The building was significantly extended to the east, with a new octagonally towered entrance, to the designs of Ealing architect George Fellowes Prynne in 1930. Internally, the extension created a new council chamber and a mayor's parlour as well as a new public hall in the basement which became known as the "Queens Hall".

In each corner are shields, each one containing the flag/emblem and Patron Saint of one of the four nations of the UK. A knight in armour stands on the left, a soldier, wife and child on the right.
