The issue Steinam was raising was little understood back when she fought for women's rights, but insurance companies knew what would happen if ERA passed. Years later in 2010, when the ACA passed, it banned any differences in insurance premiums based on gender (and health status) Thank you ACA

One of the things I most hate about Washington culture is how people quote “best and brightest” obviously never heaving read Halberstam’s book. The phrase was ironic. It worked out very poorly; the Best & Brightest led us into Vietnam and then couldn’t figure out how to get out of the war. To wit:

Roger Summit pioneered online search and Dialog was recognized by IEEE as founder of interactive search. He wasn't a flashy marketer, but was widely respected by customers, competitors & employees (I was one) for his contributions to information science and research.

I don't see that much has changed since time covered in this article. We knew trafficking & rape, esp. child rape, should be viewed as serious crimes before and after the '80s, '90s. Yet, we continue to look away if crimes are committed by wealthy powerful men (with v few exceptions).
