Foiled in my cunning plan to go out for a pint (of milk) 🙄
scaffolding and barrier across a pavement with other builders' clutter on right and brick buildings across the street on left. No ramp down from kerb or dropped kerb nearby.

Plotting in miniature: "In a Bath teashop" by John Betjeman. “Let us not speak, for the love we bear one another— Let us hold hands and look.” She such a very ordinary little woman; He such a thumping crook; But both, for a moment, little lower than the angels In the teashop’s ingle-nook.

Ursula K. LeGuin, "American SF and the Other," 1975.
If you deny any affinity with another person or kind of person, if you declare it to be wholly different from yourself-as men have done to women, and class has done to class, and nation has done to nation-you may hate it or deify it; but in either case you have denied its spiritual equality and its human reality. You have made it into a thing, to which the only possible relationship is a power relationship. And thus you have fatally impoverished your own real-ity. You have, in fact, alienated yourself.

The UK is now in a position where if your drug a disabled person enough you can turn of their human rights as the silence becomes consent. You can then shove them in a closet to rot. This cannot be shouted about loud enough. www.mind.org.uk/news-campaig...
The new rules

The judgment introduces a regressive legal standard that will fundamentally alter the lives of potentially hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people:

· The vast majority of people currently protected by the DoLS safeguards system in the UK will likely see their existing checks and independent inspections cancelled.

· The Court implies that individuals with profound cognitive disabilities cannot be "deprived" of liberty because their condition limits their ability to experience it—a view that devalues their fundamental rights.

· The Court has suggested that in borderline cases, for a deprivation of liberty to exist, a care setting must closely mirror the extreme confinement of a prison cell.

· If a vulnerable person appears passive or does not actively protest their arrangements, the law may recognise this as "consent" — even if they are subjected to routine physical restraint or chemical sedation or have never known a life without a high level of restriction.

After the Good Friday services at Sherborne Abbey.
The 9-lancet east window of the Abbey, filled with stained glass and set in sandstone under a ceiling of fan vaulting. The paler section beneath it is the reredos. A bare wooden cross has been propped, slanted leftward, on the altar table, which has been stripped bare of cloth and candles. Projecting towards the viewer on left and right are the double-banked wooden choir-stalls.

I’ve said it before and I’ll no doubt say it again. Universities are roughly 1000 years old. They predate most operating models including capitalism and have lasted for a reason. Installing insecure, helpless managers who ape business methods results in bad businesses, not good universities.
