Let me be clear: we know from evidence in countries around the world that physician dual practice drains resources away from the public system and, in many cases, increases wait times for public patients. This goes directly against the spirit of the Canada Health Act. 1/3

This is a health and safety issue - from excess chemicals to infectious produce - we need warnings that produce may be from 🇺🇸 where they have gutted regulations and inspections. Vulnerable Canadians - elderly or disabled - order online with NO labeling. Like this below: #HealthCanada #Canada
Lettuce online - no labeling of country of origin. Is it diarrhea lettuce? Who knows. That could kill a frail elderly person. Raspberries from where? Your guess is as good as mine.

I wish I had a 🎁 left. @picardonhealth.bsky.social highlights Canada's patchwork coverage of this vaccine & makes a compelling case to do better. "The U.K. offers free shingles vaccination to everyone over 65. The U.S. to everyone on its Medicare program. They do so because it’s cost-effective."
In Canada, we cover varicella vaccination for all children to prevent chickenpox. (Mind you, Canada also lacks a unified, national immunization schedule and centralized digital registry for children, but that’s an issue for another day.)

It makes sense to do the same to prevent the re-activation of a virus – which is essentially what shingles is.

Over time, widespread chickenpox vaccination should greatly reduce the likelihood of shingles but, in the meantime, we should be aiming to protect people at both ends of the age spectrum from the ravages of varicella-zoster virus.
