UK politicians have spent much of the last 70 years fighting the European integration of their worst fears while the EU developed into the organisation that they claimed to want. Not helped by some appallingly bad commentary from the misinformed.

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

In what conceivable sense is empathy for people with disabilities “suicidal”? Contributing to social security spending through taxation is not going to kill you or destroy society. Being the kind of person whose lack of empathy means being outraged at having to help others just makes you a sociopath

It was noticeable that Lee Anderson had abandoned this claim on Radio 4 this morning, saying instead that Farage wanted to celebrate with "real people". Farage has a history of making these lurid claims (like his phone being hacked by Russians) then dropping them when they've served their purpose.
