New at Strength In Numbers this morning: Despite claims from some pundits and Republican strategists of biased and "fake" polling data, the polls and fundamentals basically agree on the blue wave: www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-10-04...

What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

If you're in these 3 states, *TODAY* is deadline to register to vote. Alaska Rhode Island South Carolina Even if you think you've registered: doesn't hurt to check everything is in order. Do it now. And there's a lot to vote for across them. A thread with stakes on each. ⬇️

1️⃣ Alaska One of most important states this fall, no doubt: —Senate seat could flip, determine majority. —Dems hope to flip governorship, too. —An Indy is making a bid for US House. —Measure to repeal ranked-choice voting (again). —Bipartisan coalition seeks to keep legislature.

It’s actually an interesting question about whether an incoming president will use the White House at all—given lax attitudes about security, if nothing else, who knows how compromised the building has become?

The fact that something is unsurprising from the vantage point of where we are now doesn't mean it's not big news for an election cycle, if you just remember where we were 6 or 12 months back.

I think the people of the future will find it hard to believe anyone supported this government. In this case an American citizen was charged with a made-up crime for the entire purpose of satisfying the delusions of a corrupt, malevolent, orange-painted would-be emperor.

As in the musical 1776 —> John Dickinson: Mr. Jefferson, I have very little interest in your paper, as there's no doubt in my mind that we've all but heard the last of it, but I am curious about one thing. Why do you refer to King George as a... tyrant? Thomas Jefferson: Because he is a tyrant.

He was threatening to send Smith to jail for perjury. The basketball mix-up is ridiculous—but Schmitt’s misconduct is not funny. He belongs nowhere near an office of public trust.

This is the most remarkable quote of the whole Schmitt affair: “I just want to say — in the famous words of the chief of the secret police under Stalin — show me the man, I'll show you the crime.” Accusing someone else of this, while fabricating evidence in what amounts to a show trial.

The irony is that Jack Smith embodies many conservative ideals, from the pre-Trump years: a hard-working, dedicated professional; a Harvard law guy, coming up from pretty ordinary circumstances, playing football and baseball; committed to the rule of law, truth and honesty, and public service.
