The science fiction depiction of AI trying to kill us is by refusing to open the pod bay doors. The stupid reality of how it’s going to kill us is by providing endless iterations of instructions on how to open the pod bay doors that are all completely fucking wrong.

OTIO has a bad design flaw when it comes to nested sequences. There are no sequence references so the same data for a sequence can get duplicated thousands of times. Doh.

An unsolicited #postchat recommendation for those in finishing/online workflows: Open-source CINECRED! Wrangling production credits for episodic TV from multiple producers and revisions is always a pain. Rippling those revisions inside your NLE is clunky and presents an opportunity for error.

Mac Resolve users can now finally be rid of Rec.709-A and all the confusion it breeds: forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.ph... (Though not because Apple fixed their nonsense. It’s that Resolve is now managing it with less manual effort.)

After explaining multiple times why the edit should contain only camera original media before kicking out the XML for color, what does the editor do? Tells me he plans to intentionally put shit in the timeline that was baked out, cut up, exported again and re-imported. Instead of media managing.

I’ve not yet found any documentation on the “Apple Log 2” that was announced with the iPhone 17. But poking at Resolve 20.2 revealed: 1. Apple Log 2 appears to use the same transfer function as Apple Log. 2. Apple Log 2 primaries are wider virtual primaries, rather than the Rec.2020 of Apple Log.

ProResRAW has been added to Resolve. As is typical of Apple’s overzealous drive to simplify, the controls are hobbled and yield unexpected results. And I see some wild (bad) advice floating around online. I’d be wary and run your own careful tests before painting yourself into a corner with it.

It’s interesting how the HDR grade of the series Yellowjackets has changed significantly between season 1 and season 3. The brightest highlights in Season 1 were sharp and distracting vs Season 3 where they’re relatively softer and reduced, resulting in a better look.

There has been a drastic consolidation in the number of filmmakers who get this work, and the preponderance of them are men. True crime, sports and celebrities — that's what the streamers want. And the puff pieces are often produced by the celebrities themselves, such as the upcoming Amazon doc on Melania Trump, for which she received $40 million.
