Grain dust is an air contaminant regulated by Metro Vancouver. (Should probably add air quotes around “regulated” though….)

Good morning to everyone except Alliance Grain Terminal Ltd which is puking out a cloud of grain dust, a proven respiratory hazard, across East Vancouver.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the autonomous vehicle developers who most vocally argued that society must accept a certain number of deaths to enjoy the technology's safety benefits (Tesla & Uber ATG) were the only ones who killed people and never actually delivered on their promises

100% & it really can't be said clearly enough that the deaths from AV development caused by tesla & uber were fully preventable w the right regulations & oversight bodies & the same will be true w gen AI. the issue in both cases is deployment on the general public with no accountability, not R&D.

This is a tough election for pro-housing voters—we don't even have 10 good council candidates, let alone a solid mayor choice. But here's what I can say: please do NOT vote for Stephanie Smith (Green). She consistently opposes the pro-housing movement and will only set the city back.

Please send your friend this @lucymaloney.bsky.social council update from July 18 - www.onecityvancouver.ca/news/oc_upda...
OneCity newsletter update from
Councillor Lucy Maloney: Prioritizing a 50m Indoor Competition-Standard Swimming Pool “One of my Capital Plan amendments did make it through ABC; Council approved my motion to expedite planning for a year-round, 50-metre indoor swimming and diving pool complex that would be suitable for training, competition, and water polo. The motion ensures that critical consultation and design work, as well as a location decision, can occur in time to ensure consideration of construction funding in the 2031-2034 Capital Plan.
I am one of the many Vancouverites that would like to have seen a brand-new 50m, competition-appropriate indoor swimming pool completed before the decommissioning of the current Vancouver Aquatic Center. As a result of this amendment, a future Council will cut the ribbon on a rebuilt Vancouver Aquatic Centre in 2030-and will also have the key pieces in place to move ahead with a new 50-metre indoor competition swimming pool four years later or sooner.

Off to the side is a mockup of a new highway sign that will greet drivers arriving in the province from the United States. The new sign reads "Welcome to British Columbia, Canada.
