I suspect it’s a case of convergent evolution, a shared need to keep characters consistent across hundreds of conversations, and also developing on a tight schedule. Then we put objects such as CDs, lightbulbs, forks, etc into the microwave for a few seconds at a time to see what would happen. The bulb was the best, it did a glowy plasma thing. 150
