I love how whenever I start research for a project and come across the name of an obscure right wing mega donor then Google them and learn that every time I buy something simple like trash bags I’ve been giving money to a fascist

My neighborhood Mexican restaurant inexplicably closed over the summer and reopened as a Georgian restaurant (same owners). Checking it out tonight and thrilled that the bar seating is filled with old regulars ordering the agave drinks from the old menu.

RIP Gloria Steinem. You would’ve loved the introduction to Playboy Gourmet.
The recipes in this volume were written with the clear understandingthat most bachelors who cook start out with decisive advantages over most women who cook. Women at the range, with brilliant exceptions here and there, too often fall into the habit of doing a sadly repetitive job, a get-it-done-by-six-o'clock job. By contrast every bachelor's passion for the culinary arts is always touched with excitement because of the simple fact that he doesn't have to cook.

Etc., etc.

An entire business built off the hopes that fake people in fake scenarios resonates with an audience is INSANE. But also kinda exciting oddly enough.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.

Something that happens when you’re a bookseller is that you need to sell books to pay the rent BUT sometimes, you are not ready. It’s kind of nuts when something you poured love into goes away before you even get to show it to anybody! But it’s also literally your job!

A long shot but can anyone point me towards a list of printed books in the Załuski collection? More specific I need the list of books that were kept in the Russian national library before part of it was sent back to Poland after WWII. Shares appreciated 🙏🏻

Do I know anyone, or know anyone who knows anyone, on here that could translate a short letter in German script for me? I will happily offer gratitude and a well-deserved treat in exchange.

I love New Orleans because I just walked out of a bar trying to find my way to my car and went the wrong way and found a bookstore that stays open all night. I just dropped an irresponsible amount of money on books. Flawless business model on the book stores behalf can’t even lie.

Understanding old recipes require that you know a physical universe exists outside of words. You need to actually know what the words mean, and that they correspond to things that exist, in the world. Otherwise your dish will come out all fucked up.
