Imagine being England, having Australia 8 wickets down after a dirty day in the field, then Ellyse Perry skips to the crease. LOL. #Ashes 🏏

I'm doing a short pitch to spark some interest in learning R within my centre (mainly Stata users). What are your favourite #rstats selling points? For me it's: - Using Quarto to auto-create tables - Easy citations and cross-referencing - ggplot2 - having multiple datasets loaded at once #dataBS

If you're teaching R, or statistics, and you want your students to get more practice of data wrangling with "messy" data, you can use the {messy} package to turn the clean data you currently use for examples into more realistic looking data! #RStats #StatsEd

Proud that I've clocked a PB this year for annual running distance, with a few more weeks to push the total further! Pursuing small goals and running for myself = consistency 💪 (I saw someone else's distance chart posted here the other day, but I can't find it now to give kudos...) #rstats
A chart showing annual distances tracked by Jacquie Tran in running and walking sessions from 2013 to 2024 so far (as of 11 November 2024). Distances are plotted as separate lines that mark cumulative distance over time. The highest annual distance has been tracked in 2024 to date, with 690 km covered in running and walking sessions.

A bar chart showing the top 10 cheeses by calcium content, using data from cheese.com. Castelmagno from Italy has the highest calcium content at 4768 mg / 100 g, while Limburger rounds out the top 10 with 497 mg / 100 g.

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs. However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!
An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.
