Anyway, next scouting piece on Yoon Sung-Jun 😉 It'll be ready sometime within the next 2 weeks I think...!

Dominated the game against a team filled with some seasoned pros, wasted so many opportunities, got done in by one single mistake, and gave Korea some hope for the future. Horrendous. And Go Oiwa is supposed to take over the national team next year...

U23 Korea are doing a quick job of retreating into their box but it's disappointing Japan's transitions don't end up in the box, usually shift wide to enter the final 3rd then just completely loses all momentum...

Asian Games, The Final! U-21 Japan 🇯🇵 vs. U-23 South Korea 🇰🇷 Only Hisatsugu Ishii remains the last game, everybody else swapped out. Rui Araki back in goal. Shimamoto starts out wide (most likely). Captain Ichihara back in defense. #daihyo

This team doesn't take enough shots, & scuff them when we do. Some genuinely nice play but it all means nothing if we're not making their keeper work! Most difficult opponent in this window (sorry Uruguay) so it wasn't bad but these are the teams we need to be scoring against!

Yuito Suzuki has consistently been good for the national team but the poor guy really needs to score a goal for his own sake

An OK 1st Half, much better vs the previous two games at least. Trying different ideas in the build-up, Tanimura slowly getting into the groove of things too. Need to get more shots though... Doan-Kubo works fine as usual but Keito-Yuito haven't figured each other out yet.

Japan 🇯🇵 Starting Line-up vs. Ecuador 🇪🇨! - Kaina Tanimura starts up top! ⚓️ - Yuito Suzuki + Keito Nakamura on the Left 🤛 - Ritsu Doan = captain 🫡 #daihyo

Matthew Edward | #エドワード真秀 has caught the eye as an 18 year old making his first few pro appearances as Omiya's midfield injuries pile up early in the J2 2026/2027 season. He has played as the right-sided box-to-box #8 in a midfield 3 so far. #Ardija #大宮アルディージャ #RBOmiyaArdija #RB大宮アルディージャ

The defending throughout this tournament has had me worried quite a bit. Just haven't been punished until now because of the quality of opponents... Depth and quality flipped the game eventually but then just could not finish off chances at all. Win is a win but Korea up next.

yeah in an official match the defender probably takes the tactical foul as cavan's cutting into the final 3rd (nice run though, obviously)

With various injuries in midfield, 18 year old Matthew Edward has been starting for Omiya Ardija in recent games. Lots of physical/athletic tools but actual output (like passing) still needs to appear. Compelling. I'll write something more detailed tomorrow.

This game really showed the gulf in class between the regulars & the bench/fringe players that "auditioned" tonight. Still some bright lights like Kokubo, Saito, Sato but some worrying signs elsewhere. CB injuries piling up (again!) also a concern...

Japan 🇯🇵 Starting Line-up vs. Venezuela 🇻🇪! - As Moriyasu said yesterday, lots of turnover! - Kumasaka starts in midfield 🏃‍♂️💨💨 - Kokubo starts in goal 🧤🛡️ - Very young Front 3 of Goto, Saito, & Sato! 🌱 - Kamada = captain 🫡 #daihyo

Caught up through Omiya's stretch of games where they just kept drawing & yeaahhh really struggled vs. low block + direct teams (well in some they just couldn't finish tbf). If they get promoted they are gonna have a rough time with teams like Vissel Kobe... Although...

Honestly not that good of a game , lots of sloppiness but scored 3 and won so that’s always nice. Not convinced by that particular trio of Back 3 (but we all knew this from before). Keito a menace every time he got the ball. Happy for Matsuki. Skeptical on Hayakawa 🤔
