Happy David Beckham vs Greece Day to those who celebrate
A solid four out of ten drawing of David Beckham circa binning a last-gasp free-kick (at the eight attempt) against Greece to seal England's qualification for the 2002 World Cup.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be quite keen for a lot of that future to be spend in a small, secure room with a fully integrated toilet and an overly friendly roommate.

Been getting a lot of 9/11 content in various feeds recently, with the usual conspiracy theorists in the comments. This might be the engineer in me talking, but the actual mechanics of how the towers (and tower 7) collapsed is way more interesting than any of the theories. You're missing out guys.

The updates are just Reform policies broken down into bitesize chunks and coverage of Farage's photo op with his ghastly French equivalent. Real cutting journalism.

So Nigel Farage and his lackeys get caught red handed doing dodgy dealings, and the BBC are using it as a clickbait headline to the Reform party conference - an event that would have zero reason to be front page news otherwise. Cool cool cool cool cool.

I really cannot think of a greater honor than to have the Muppets say this about you upon your passing
Instagram post from the official Muppets account: Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled - witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.

It is preposterous that a 45 minute second half with 4 substitute slots and a drinks break got less stoppage time than the second 15 minute half of extra time.

Always wondered what Daily Mail writer Craig Hope truly first disliked about extremely talented and self confident black footballer Jude Bellingham. I guess we'll never know.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
If any journo justified their suggestion that Jude Bellingham either shouldn't start in or shouldn't go to this World Cup by criticising his arrogance/petulance/ego/self-interest etc. they should be sacked, because they're either A) Shit at their job, or B) Probably racist. Future England captain.

It has been criminally underreported but Kelsey Pfendler has just rowed solo across the Pacific Ocean from the US coast to Hawaii in record time. A 2,400-mile unsupported journey in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes. Notably beating the Men’s record by 9 whole days.

Football unites the world.
A montage of front pages of newspapers and magazines from the UK, Spain, France, Japan, Italy, Germany and the US, all of them criticising Fifa president Gianni Infantino for his "capitulation" to Donald Trump in the Balogun affair.

It's even worse as it stands. His opponents are a man dressed as a bin and Laurence Fox. In other words a complete joke of a candidate whose presence in politics makes a mockery of our electoral system, and Count Binface.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Oh for sure. Just needs everyone else to hold their nerve. At the very least, seeing Binface beat Laurence Fox, or seeing that prospect scare Laurence Fox out of the race, will be pretty damn funny.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Thing about a Binface vs. Farage Clacton by-election is, while obviously Binface winning would be the single most hilarious moment in British politics, Farage got less than half the votes, on a below average turnout, to win the seat in 2024, meaning *he has to take the threat of Binface seriously* 😂

151
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Yeah it certainly is. And in the purest sense it doesn't really change much - 99.9% of footballers will keep on keeping on on with their mates wherever they are in the world. Sadly in top level football it's easy to keep people divided and distracted while you maximise profit at their expense.
010
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
I couldn't agree more. Sadly, FIFA, like Trump's America, is turning more and more into a kleptocracy that feels like they can brazenly act however they wish and people will moan for a while before the news cycle moves on. And sadly, they're probably right. It's a painful place to see my sport in.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Honestly? I would have thought this would make them less inclined to overturn calls. It should be rather embarrassing for a ref to make a call, it be overturned by VAR and then it be overturned again by committee. I think the major factor in this is the commonality of corruption in Trump's America.
000
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
There absolutely should be an appeal process, there is in most football competitions around the world and the World Cup shouldn't be any different. But also, if I'm being honest, it this was appealed in, say, the Premier League, it wouldn't be overturned. It was a soft red but not clear error.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Also - and I must emphasise this - the Ronaldo one was also absolute bollocks. But the Balogun one is a far bigger scandal, in my very humble opinion.
000
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
What do you mean? The Ronaldo one? He still served the default one game and had two for violent conduct suspended, which by my reading is the spirit of the law. It also wasn't in the World Cup finals itself, where every red card has led to at least a one game ban since that was introduced in 1970.
200
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
From a long time football fan and a bit of a World Cup nerd - this is a massive scandal. Rules, precedent, everything says a red card (whether fair or not) is at least a one game ban. There is no fair reason this ban was suspended. That is was done for seemingly political reasons is a huge deal.
200
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
It's all bad. There is no appeal process no matter how bad the red card was, the was a unilateral, unprecedented decision by FIFA that makes Balogun the first player ever to not serve a ban he's been given at a World Cup. This is really, really bad. A huge scandal. And I didn't think it was a red.

Of course Gianni is going for the "Our totally independent disciplinary body totally independently decided the first time a World Cup red card suspension would ever be reversed would be the one the President of the host nation I've been sucking up to for the past year personally asked for" defence.

Donald Trump: Folarin Balogun suspension would have left 'big stain' on World Cup
United States President Donald Trump says Fifa "made the right decision" to suspend Folarin Balogun's one-match ban, adding that otherwise, it would have left a "big stain" on the World Cup.

FIFA's own rules dictate that if a government tries to intervene in a disciplinary matter - that team is disqualified. Not happening to the USA though, despite trump making that phone call. Wonder why. 🤔 Fuck Trump. Fuck Infantino.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
For whom it may concern - please stop saying "Balogun shouldn't have been sent off, so suspending his ban is ok." Sport only works when rules are fair and equally applied. Argue for a fairer appeal process, argue for VAR to be less shit. Don't argue FIFA should be able to pick and choose. Please.

Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 05/07/2026
Well, yeah, exactly. FIFA choose to suspend Cristiano's ban for prestige and profit reasons. And Balogun's for, potentially, political and profit reasons. But not Sithole's, or Zwane's, or Almiron's, or Ahmed's, or Hincapie's...
010
Jack Senior @jacksenior42.bsky.social · 05/07/2026
Even if you don't think it was a red, FIFA suspending Balogun's ban is deeply worrying for the state of the game. In article 27, FIFA have a clause where they get to pick and choose how discipline is applied based on reputation, politics or profit - and they are quite prepared to use it for such.
