In this piece, two social scientists do an exemplary job of identifying substantive problems resulting from writing produced with AI. AI-assisted writing makes unwarranted causal leaps, fails to specify conceptual links between ideas, misrepresents key facts and leaves out essential information.

This is another attack on the so-called "feminization" of higher education, abetted by widespread ideology (also held by far too many uni leaders) that education has no value beyond a taxpayer-subsidized job training program for corporations. Also part of effort to resegregate higher education.

This semester I taught a new course, "Culture and Social Policy." The idea was to identify the symbolic assumptions that drive policy discussions in the US, trace their historical roots, then see how they work in multiple policy domains.

I taught about parking minimums this semester and the students were astonished and enraged by the degree to which laws require filling space this way. By the end of the discussion they were all ready to either grab their pitchforks or apply for their local zoning boards.

The admin can't achieve its aims absent compliance from Congressional Republicans, federal judges, GOP-led state gov'ts, and media, corporate, and civil society institutions. The weaker he appears, the more incentive/permission they have to stop complying in first small, then hopefully larger ways.

exceptional article, I think this gets at the heart of why Minneapolis is such a target for the Trump admin even above & beyond other liberal American cities
"It is intolerable to a Pelley or Smith or Trump that a city that was once nearly entirely white, Protestant, and Northern European could transform into a polyglot hub with large Somali, Mexican, Hmong, and Vietnamese populations. It is intolerable to MAGA that liberals and progressives hold nearly every elected office of consequence in Minnesota, and that they have vociferously—sometimes profanely—rejected white solidarity to defend minority communities. It is intolerable to MAGA that civil society continues to thrive in Minneapolis through liberal religious congregations, vigorous labor unions, vibrant ward politics, and engaged neighborhood associations—the very groups that have mounted the sustained, nonviolent opposition to ICE’s invasion. It is intolerable to MAGA that Minneapolis never chose Pelley’s way or Smith’s way, and now rejects the MAGA way."
