Also these people aren’t neglected teenagers, they’re adults with full agency over their actions and beliefs! Stop treating them like they’re maligned when they’re malicious

That’s exactly what it is because they see him as this ultra-tough “alpha” male. That it rolls off the tongue makes it that much more appealing for the dumbest people who don’t bother to pay attention to anything past surface-level reading

The “a man of his time arguments” are always bullshit because if you were, say, a Taíno, you probably thought Columbus was terrible regardless of what people in Spain thought. But yeah, plenty of people in Spain thought he was too brutal too.

The anti-anti-Trump movement has been as damaging to he country as the pro-Trump movement. The basic idea of the anti-anti-Trump faction is that they themselves criticize Trump sometimes, but any political or legal figure who tries to stop Trump is always going too far or not doing it the right way.

This is why Musk doesn't mind that that Twitter revenue is down 59% (or Ellison w/ CBS). He's more than making up for that loss via Twitter's political effects--ingratiating to Trump, fomenting racist panics, etc--which help SpaceX and xAI get favorable public contracts and regulatory treatment

It’s baffling how many people fail to understand this until you realize how many people see politics as a game or “horse race.” Then it begins to make a lot more sense why they care so much more about hypocrisy rather than an imperfect system that still tries to do *some* good.

dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

It has to be completely deflating to see your ex-spouse use a fraction of their divorce settlement to do more good than you’ve ever done. People like Bezos and Musk know how much they’re despised and resent that they can’t buy respect so they kiss Trump’s ass to feel like they have any influence

remember: it saved no net money, social services US citizens are getting cut, and left the US in a weaker place geopolitically. none of the debates about fiscal responsibility, obligation to US citizens first, or 'hard choices' actually apply. they're all bullshit. killed people for nothing at all.

I don’t disagree but I really think it boils down to a lot of Trump 2024 voters checked out of paying attention to everything outside their day-to-day once the pandemic started and when the 2024 election came around, they associated the “pre-pandemic” vibes with Trump. Now they have buyers remorse

Will this trend continue? I have no idea. But it is very striking to me that after years of being told I needed to learn to code (I actually did, in high school, but ok) and to do STEM, the numbers-and-code folks have mostly managed to automate away their own jobs.

They’ll still cower out of fear and cry foul. Coming out against Trump now or after the midterms doesn’t earn them good will with *anyone.* MAGA wants them to be in line and the median and disaffected voters will see them as fence sitters. They have no other choice but to go down with the ship now

Symbols matter. White House isn't a palace. Kennedy Center is for the general public to enjoy. We don't have a triumphal arch in DC because that's imperial. We don't put the president's face on money because it's monarchical. It's about tearing down everything that says we're a democratic republic.

But far more importantly, the voters make no appearance whatsoever in Justice Alito’s reasoning. He, like the government, does not dispute that using the rule in 2026 would disenfranchise millions of our most vulnerable people. He doesn’t care. It’s despicable and antidemocratic.

Realizing the extent to which this is true wildly changed my opinions about how to deal with Trumpism, since they're never going to be satisfied unless they're actively dominating everyone else. You can't give them some concessions and go back to the status quo: they're reactionary revolutionaries.

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.
The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

Pastor Carl Ruby, of Springfield's Central Christian Church, can state the issue more clearly than 98% of people working in politics today.
"I wish President Trump could hear the mom's wails. The

family wants people to know that this was a suicide and they

want people to know that President Trump, (Stephen) Miller, and Markwayne Mullin's inhumane immigration policies made this happen," Ruby wrote.

This is also a great example of how purported conservative virtues are a complete farce. Hypocrisy and lying/deliberate misconstrues are okay as long as they “validate” their actual racist and Christian nationalist values.

Unserious centrists like Chait treat politics like a “king of the hill” style game where the point isn’t to advocate for your values but always be on the winning side. It’s why you don’t ever see them meaningfully engage with or analyze an issue without distilling it through that perspective
