Reading has become an endangered species. Which is half the problem with American political life. Maybe more than half. If you can't read, you can't think. Then you can fall for anything. The idea, for instance, that the truth is fake news.

Cannot get over the beauty of this GIF: it’s Zidane celebrating last night after Olise scored a last minute winner for France. It looks like something from a movie or a high-end fashion advert. Probably the most elegant footballer of all time.

That is quite the month of new releases! My criterion Blue Velvet is safe, but existing editions of Bullitt, Logan’s Run, and When Harry Met Sally will soon be finding themselves in a charity bag.

Arrow Video new releases for December 2026.

Well well well, something finally happened. What do we reckon the sanctions (if any) will ultimately be? Stripped of titles won during those years? Transfer ban? Haaland ordered to immediately sign for #nufc?

DVDs aren't low-tech. They're just things you can actually own, that won't disappear overnight, that don't require a monthly subscription, that won't suddenly get reedited, that won't start putting adverts in the middle and that won't sell your data to the worst people in the world.

Not to disparage the fine profession of meteorology, but yesterday I checked a weather app for my holiday next week and it said 29 degrees and sunny. Just checked it now and it's saying 16 degrees and pissing down. What the fuck, lads? You've still got time to make this right. Redeem yourselves.

Replacing television and film with Whatever All This Is has gone so well. The bright future that the disrupters came up with (a version of having a very big hard drive of indifferent content you can’t navigate and don’t value) has worked about as well as it did for music. We’re all so much poorer.

Quite enjoyed the new season of Reacher. As much as I take pleasure in the fundamental thrills of this show (big man punches people very hard) I’ve always found it to be visually bland and poorly directed. Much improved this season….and the final big fight is a bloodbath.

The most spectacularly stupid embarrassing island on the face of the earth chock full of small time brain broken petty fascists who deserve everything they demand. Full independence for Piddington now. Hard border. Visas. Passport control. Tariffs.

Delivering the result, Susannah Parden, vice chair of the parish council said: "We are Piddington the village that roars."

Following the result, council chair Tim McNally said: "This is an example of democracy in operation.

"We went into this village hall as the underdogs - we had a plucky idea.

"We have given a message to the world."

Responding to the village saying it had "roared", Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told BBC Breakfast: "I think they have – we have heard it, we are listening.
