Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...
A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is. Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

This is worse than saying nothing. Does seem a lot like high profile bands like Slipknot think they're above caring about this stuff. Especially damning considering metal presents itself as being a welcoming and caring community.

Someone at work told me they went to their first Economics lecture at Leeds Uni today and discovered out of a class of 100 students they're the only one from Leeds. Everyone else is from either London or China.

Just seen Na Hong-jin's new film Hope. Undoubtedly the most adrenaline fuelled film I've seen since Mad Max: Fury Road hit cinemas. Hoyeon as Lim Sung-ae, featured on the poster, did 6 months training in driving and firearms for the chase sequence.

If you are in the area I highly recommend going to see Clive Barker's Hellraiser on the big screen. Doug Bradley as Pinhead is iconic in the role. The film itself is so far removed from other horror films of the era in terms of its themes and story. There's some amazing special effects too.

I've discovered my phone has decided to go green. Which is handy. Turning Dark Mode off seems to make it better but I think my phone is fragged. The phone I've only had about 6 months. Technology is great. 👍

On the subject of kids and reading. I cannot emphasize enough how much telling a kid not to read something will spark an interest. I read Clive Barker's Books of Blood because my older brother said "it wasn't for kids." I didn't understand what all the words meant but I read it. #booksky 📚

Bit mad that there are no Durham Red books available in print. Not even the recent take on the character in by Alec Worley, Ben Willsher and Lee Carter. A major 2000AD character that just seemingly disappeared from print.

Cool thing I just saw, there's a band playing outside the Corn Exchange, A rather good band. Their take on Kylie's Can't Get You Out of My Head was excellent. Excellent place for it as there's loads of people hanging out in the early evening sun. Drummer on vocals too, don't see that often.

Why have we reached a stage where people call in to @natashadevon.bsky.social and say they want people to drown? Well headlines like this don’t help. Let’s forget that numbers are way down on years previous and just keep stoking fear and division. This is why the RNLI is under attack.

Playing the Hellraiser Revival demo. At one point Chatterer appears and you have to runaway through the labyrinth. Chatterer keeps teleporting around. Having to memorise the route, whilst also running and manoeuvring around obstacles is pretty intense.

I wonder sometimes whether the housing crisis has had an impact on physical media. As people go from apartments to house shares as rent increases and their personal spaces get smaller and space becomes a premium. It's not that physical media itself is inaccessible, it's the space to keep it in.

Tonight’s fascist attack on an RNLI lifeboat is the result of years of stochastic terrorism directed at asylum-seekers by mainstream politicians and media. Repeated high profile claims that “we must stop these people!”. The fascists are simply following through on that rhetoric.

Fundamentally so much of this action against the people crossing the channel and against the RNLI- rests upon a fundamental and twisted logic that its better to let these people drown then it is to bring them to our shores. And frankly it should be said more often this is a barbaric view

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil is a strange beast. Clear influence from John Carpenter's The Thing and definitely Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. Whilst shot well and atmospheric in places Cregger's emphasis on the comedy part of comedy horror undermines the horror and becomes grating in the third act.
