(He/Him) I’m a big fan of video games, video game history, and anime. Currently spending my spare time working on trying to find all of the digital pinball games released for consoles and handhelds. And playing Wacca. I love Wacca.

It’s nice to sometimes get the good parts of cyberpunk. (At Blink in Cincinnati) The most cyberpunk moment was when a Duke Energy logo came up on the side of the Music Hall and the whole crowd booed.
The music hall lit up in neon colors. The Kroger building with a VHS tape neon pattern. A crystal light up unicorn head sculpture. The corner of a building with an exploding sun.

First you draw a circle... And then you launch the devouring swarm of one at high speed in a pinball table. One of the GB games that really benefits from getting the SGB treatment. 'tis a bit hard to see the ball in motion on the DMG screen. 📺: Kirby's Pinball Land, HAL Laboratory, 1993

this however is beautiful, we all love Vibri
a large amount of text from the same article about the concept of the rabbit vibri and her design - extracted quote "She always created backstories for her characters, and she explained to me very early on the concept of the "charm point" of a person or a character. This is an extremely important focus in Kiri's work. Notice how Vibri's eyes are so detailed compared to the rest [of her], and how they persist through her incarnations, except when she is sleeping or looking inward — but even then, you can imagine those eyes are focused inward planning, building her energy, or dreaming. In NanaOn-Sha's work the character's inner drive always shines through. To quote Parappa, "You gotta believe!""

Depending on the size of the boxes, comic book boxes are great for packing or moving games/movies. They pack neatly, they’re designed to hold weight, and they’re built for stacking. I like short boxes because they are easy to pile into a car or van and the size also limits the weight for carrying.

That’s a great point. The one screenshot doesn’t show the CCs that precede this. There might be several different CCs communicating those important details. The subs don’t provide any of that context. Thanks so much for sharing things like this. I always learn a lot from your detailed explanations.

I’m curious if there are situations where it’s OK to break style guide / standards if the closed captions could hinder or impede the viewer’s experience. Or is the answer here that someone who depends on closed captioning should turn it off to see the text behind it, and turn it back on afterwards?

iTatton @itatton.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Dumb question. Would it be appropriate to omit the CC in this instance and fall back to the subs that have the Japanese lyrics and English translation? Does the use of italics in the subs telegraph enough context that someone who depends on closed captioning can know this is singing a song?

They’d tell us exactly which trains to take and what stop to get off. By the time we’d go to say thank you they’d be 20 feet away and walking as if they had never stopped. This happened several times. I think the people there are nice. They’re busy and direct in a way that’s often misunderstood.

I had a similar impression before my first trip to NYC. My friends and I went to see Puffy AmiYumi there in 2002. None of us had been before so we weren’t familiar with the subway lines. We never looked at a subway map for long before someone would stop to ask us where we were going.

Looking at a lot of the comments across different threads, it seems like there’s lots of nonsense around which titles people are choosing and a bunch of people being using that to be butts for no reason.

This seems hard with a generational divide. Back in the 90’s, there were often huge delays between when a show was airing in Japan and when it got localized, so fandoms formed around the Japanese title. Now that shows commonly release around the same time, it’s easier to use the localized title.

I set a goal for getting a Safe Cracker magic token from here today. The last game I played was the closest I got. 4 or 5 trips to the vault and I couldn’t make it to the safe. I can’t believe how many 1s I rolled. Maybe next time I’ll be able to pull it off at least once.

No Mountain Dew. Only Crab Grab. Crab Grab, 1983, Nintendo SuperColor Game & Watch This little guy is in rough shape and was sold cheaply as junk. Totally worth it. The gameplay is super simple but addictive. Push crab up, no get pinched. Game & Watch are top tier LCD games. 🦀/10 #RandomGameSaturday
An oddly tall Game & Watch! The casing is chromed (and showing lots of wear).
The screen is a long rectangle, taller than wide. The top has the time at the left corner. There are 4 color bands on the playfield, each containing a stack of grumpy looking crabs, from left to right, purple, green, red, and blue. There is a little dude that's just a ball with eyes, a troubled little mouth, and arms and legs. They have to push them crabbos without getting pinched.
The direction buttons are below the screen, in brick red, with a LEFT RIGHT toggle on the left, and an UP DOWN on the right. At the bottom there are 3 tiny rubber (chewed to hell) buttons for GAME A, GAME B, and TIME with a tiny pinhole ALARM.
A close up on the screen of the Crab Grab. It's been described in the first picture Alt Text.
It just little dude pushin' them multicolored stacks 'o crabs.
Get 'em!

Surprise saved game! Capcom vs SNK Card Fighters Clash 2, Neo Geo Pocket Color. I spotted a bag of unknown bits and bobs at #ArcadeLegacy in Cincy. It looked like the cart was for NGPC. We picked it up untested. Card Fighters Clash 2 has a playable early translation with save! #RandomGameSaturday
Skeleton blue (clear) Neo Geo Pocket Color held by a white person's hand over a pile of nerd junk.
The screen has the title screen for SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash 2 Expand Edition. The NGPC has game screen from the Card Fighters Clash 2. The character has a card album of 261/424.The Pocket Linker for the NGPC.
There is a clear purple 32M Pocket Flash Card cartridge for the NGPC. It is rounded at the top, unlike the standard NGPC cart.
The Pocket Linker is double the size of the cart in grey. You plug the cart in at the top, it takes either 6 AAA batteries or AC power at the corner. The PC connection is Parallel.

Battle Pinball is a 3DO game from 1994, developed by a company that only made one other game as far as anyone can tell, a different (and poorly reviewed) pinball game from earlier in the year. That one lacked weird CGI characters and PvP pinball, though. Battle Pinball has both of those things.

At least the soundtrack is worth a replay. Lagoon, 1991, Kemco for SNES The box is a liar. Attracted RPG players? My ass. I remember listening to my Little Bother and his friend play this game. Graphics were fine, gameplay was clunky. But my dude, that soundtrack was the JAM. #RandomGameSaturday
A kind of blurry picture of the rectangular box for Lagoon for the SNES.
Along the bottom and right side are wide black lines, with the gold Official Nintendo Seal of Quality and red SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM logo on the bottom, and LICENSED BY NINTENDO at the upper right, with THE 3-D ACTION FANTASY THAT IS ATTRACTING RPG PLAYERS IN WAVES! below. The bottom right corner has the grey SNES logo with the buttons on the controller.
The upper left has white KEMCO^SEIKA logo in a red rectangle.
The cover art is a rather typical castle that looks like the front is like a skull with oval windows for eyes and the open gate for teeth. The skies are blue and red and look like a storm is brewing. There is a lightning bolt that really doesn't connect to the clouds because *menacing*. The moon is red, full, and pissed. The castle is on a super piny island surrounded by waves, with two tidal waves arcing around as a framing device.
The LAGOON logo is orange and the letters look like olden times metal font with spiky pointy point points on each end.

It’s one of those games that’s so bad it loops the scale and ends up on top. It’s like a pug, broken at the core of it’s design and being, yet it’s still a beautiful little thing that will bring joy to those who open their hearts and don’t judge it at face value.
