Record heat in India, Europe and much of the States. Only the early stages of decades of increased climate chaos and it is already hard for many to bear the consequences. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Farming worries after India records driest June in over a decade
Weaker monsoon rains are likely to impact farm output but the government says it has enough grain stocks to deal with any shortages.

A warm summer morning, rising early the Blackbirds were about. And a hungry squirrel to keep them company. #firstbirdoftheday

Sometimes in the night my mind wanders to what it must be like in Kyiv, then in the morning your words tell it as it was..this never ending war needs Europe to stop it. Somehow..

Fascinating. One of my mum’s friends had it and was to be honest a little scary to be around. When we first met, I’d have been about 14 she came over and studied me and said, “you are one of us, aren’t you” She was quite right of course.

Last nights meander with my daughter, watching barn owls hunting under the moon. ‘Squeaked’ one in across the length of the field on its way back to the barn. It landed briefly on a fence post right in front of us. Magical. Like a dream every time. If this is my super-power, I’m happy with it. 1/3
Nearly full moon rising above summer fields, hedges & trees, the lights of the next village house glowing in the distance. Stable barn roof, clock tower & trees silhouetted against the last of the apricot sunset sky.

The early moring heatwave has returned. At dawn it was cool, but soon it was sweltering and no-one stirred. Finally, unusually, a Magpie came down to the patio…. #firstbirdofmyday

An amazing sea swim this evening, beneath little terns, Sandwich terns and Mediterranean gulls. And, in the dunes on the way back, many thousands of orchids of four species in bloom: marsh helleborine, pyramidal, coccinea early marsh and (not pictured) southern marsh.

Too hot at dawn, even for birds feet and I sat in the Garden room hoping for some respite. Then the storm rolled in with an awesome crack..out they all came in the rain, a Sparrow, a Robin, a pair of Hooded Crows on the fence and the Blackbirds almost at the same time. #firstbirdofmyday

The Amazon isn’t just a distant forest,it’s where rivers start, clouds form,& 18% of the world’s freshwater flows to the sea!But deforestation, fires,& poisoned rivers are destroyx this balance. Protecting the Amazon means protecting the nature we all depend on,even close to home.

Out late last evening, walking the back roads between the farms to achieve some cool air. The fields had just been mown and the scented air was a joy, it was a long walk and necessary. Your Diary perfectly captures the Hay season, takes me back many a year.

The multimillionaire Nigel Farage rails against climate action, while gliding from one air-conditioned building to another. He knows that he and his ilk will suffer least. But he is prepared to sacrifice everyone else to the demands of his fossil-fuelled funders. So much for "the man of the people".

Today the heat is rising off the patio something alarming. I thought everyone would stay in the Ivy but put water out early and checked the feeders. Shortly after, down came the Sparrows, too hot for me out there though..take care everyone. #firstbirdofmyday

Let’s not fudge why Starmer is in this mess. Yes, he didn’t have political instinct. Yes, the public is much less patient and more critical. But Starmer was also - to use his own phase - morally bankrupt on key issues of the day, from Gaza, disability benefits, to immigration.

Early stroll. A blackbird hops along the length of a wall. That passing motorbike seems to be angry at something. A broken fence like a half-formed idea. Clouds slowly shapeshift. Oceans of discarded plastic bottles.

Fbomd was not a corvid but a lyrebird, several in fact on the path. Nearly walked into a female as she ran across the track in front of me. The males were all in great form- display time. All sounds on video were made by the 1 bird which I finally saw on the tree.
