East of a line from the Humber to The Solent, there are more Zitting Cisticolas living & breeding than there are Willow Tits (now effectively zero).

Same view, fifteen minutes apart. The first as I frantically got my laundry in. Swifts overhead, in a great swirl of house martins. Doubtless the last swifts I’ll see here this year. Go safely wild ones.

I don't want to have to engage in protest. I'd rather just get on with my research, and I found it quite emotional But while my government is considering pouring more fuel on the fires, despite everything we know and everything we're experiencing, what else am I supposed to do?

NNNS are saddened to hear that Carl Chapman passed away on Friday. Carl made a massive contribution to the Society, as a Trustee, Chairman & through the creation of the Liaison Committee (which he also chaired)- a body that helped strengthen links between NNNS and other local wildlife charities. 1/x

Asteraceae doing the heavy lifting for this week’s #wildflowerhour #stillflowering challenge: musk thistle (with painted lady caterpillar) on chalk grassland, Canadian goldenrod, wall lettuce (in this case door lettuce) and (not Asteraceae) entangled tendrils of tufted vetch and hedge bindweed.

Great idea. One of the most inspiring books when I was young, then I was lucky enough to get to know Keith in person, then later to employ Alan's daughter! Any young birders need this book.
