Back from a multi-city Euro trip with 17 to celebrate his graduation and up-coming 18th birthday. All of it was lovely, but Belgium was an unexpected delight. Loved the cities, loved the countryside. Just a wonderful time.

This graph shows two things, 1) obviously that the cameras reduced speeding, but 2) that the improvement kept getting better over time. Speeders tend to get one or two tickets and then learn and change their behaviour. This isn't a cash grab, it's an extremely useful intervention.

I'm a relief crossing guard, filling in as needed at schools in Centretown, Hintonburg, Glebe and OOS. If you're wondering how long it takes drivers to return to their aggressive ways after a deadly hit-and-run, the answer is less than 8 days.

Catching up on Round 2: 13 is back to her usual high scoring ways and has retaken the lead with 44 points. I’m following in second with 41, while 17 did well to hit 38 points given a significantly depleted right side of his bracket. #2026MMM

It may sound shocking to hear a crossing guard was critically injured in a hit and run by the driver of a black Ford F-150 - but honestly if you've been paying attention at all you're probably not that shocked. That's why we demand better - for our kids, their protectors, and all our neighbours.

We missed the last two nights due to life being busy, but we’re all caught up now! Things weren’t looking great for me or 17 after a shaky night 3 for both, but an unexpectedly poor showing from 13 on night 4 and I’ve somehow taken a slim lead with 23 points, while the kids have 22 each. #2026MMM

A little snowboarding, year 2 update: Today was the last day of the weekly program during which I had occasional lessons, improved a lot and had tons of fun! I still can’t keep up with my kids (who just keep getting faster) but sometimes they hang back with me ❤️🏂 Also, you can’t beat the views!
A photo of the view from the top of La Reserve on a beautiful sunny day. The snow is well groomed and you can see the chairlift on the left, some trees on the right and Lac Ouareau in the distance.A photo of the view from Mont Blanc on an overcast day. Ski chalets can be spotted between the trees, with the village beyond. The Laurentian mountains can be seen stretching back into the distance.A photo of a very snowy day on Mont Tremblant. Snowboarders get ready in front of snow covered trees to the left. The chairlift is on the right. Everything is heavily encrusted in snow.Another snowy Tremblant photo. The trees on both sides of the trail are weighed down with snow and you can see mountains through low clouds in the distance.

Ottawa needs more buses. We also need more dedicated lanes - to keep buses out of traffic and on schedule. Bus lanes can cut trip times in half and are badly needed on arteries like Bank, Carling, Baseline, Richmond and Rideau to speed up key routes like the 6, 7, 11, 85 and 88.

we didn't finish denazification. we didn't finish desegregation. we didn't finish reconstruction. every opportunity for transformative change was deliberately sabotaged by american leaders who knew their wealth would not survive a world freed from eugenics, white supremacy, and war profiteering.

Anything less than abolishing ICE is unacceptable. I don't want to hear people talk about training these motherfuckers or throwing more money at them. The entire institution needs to be permanently disbanded. Do not let politicians sell you on anything less.

A line graph showing trick or treaters to our house. 2024 (in green) hit 59, and lead most of the way over 2025's 52, which had rain to start the night. The Salem high (53), low (20), and average (~37) shown in grey. The x axis is labeled from 17:30 to 20:30, the range of ToT times in both cities.

A lot of comments on Mars rovers or Moon landings, but it's important to remember that the planet NASA studies most is Earth. This is less about cutting flashy things like moonwalks and more about keeping communities in the dark on climate, weather, agriculture, pollution, natural hazards, and more.

Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year? How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.
