yes, absolutely. it's not as if "(how) do we engage with the work of assholes?" isnt a useful + necessary question. it's just that we can step back from this one asshole, consider who else might be valuable to cite, make sure our response isn't driven by immediacy

i would also add that, as a fan, you are not a meaningful part of any rehabilitation process. you do not know this person and they are not accountable to you. your personal decision is simply whether you remain in their audience, and removing yourself from that is not in itself a punitive act

remove yourself from their audience and adjust. let the initial panic pass. see that you are ok without them. and down the line if you still want to discuss nuances in a meaningful way, wait until you can be entirely confident in your own motives: that you don't just want everything to be fine

sorry if that sounds vague, but in specific: i think, if someone you're a fan of is revealed to have committed sexual violence, probably sit with that for a good long while before you try to use them a lens for discussing rehabilitative justice
