And unfortunately, as others have noted, indie animation is great but can't address this. Indie productions by their very nature cannot employ all the people who are struggling in the wake of these mergers. It'd be nice if somebody with many truckloads of money tried to fill that void, I guess.

I've had several people ask me if I lost my job to AI and I have to tell them it's even stupider: the people who own the media just DON'T want to make animated shows. It's not even that animation doesn't make money, they just don't want to spend the initial investment. It's infuriating.

and indie animation runs into the same problems as indie gamedev, namely a lack of infrastructure. you're basically a survivalist scrounging up any resources you can find to get your project off the ground. it is possible, but not at the scale of previous corporate animation

Like, you know it absolutely can & probably will get worse from the current status quo, but after witnessing the much bigger onslaught it practically feels like a drop in the bucket by comparison. Its kinda why I had that bit of overoptimism yesterday. Because there's little to lose, a lot to gain.

I'm not even gonna lie, the whole "Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are now siblings" thing just kinda makes me feel nothing at this point. Not just because mergers bad and all that obvious stuff, but also because it feels like the equivalent of kings inheriting already starving villages.

AKA corporate word salad at its finest! A red flag to point out regarding CN’s future specifically is if Mike Ouweleen leaves since he’s one of the only reasons why CN is still alive. I fear it could happen since Gunnar Wiedenfels and Bruce Campbell, also noteworthy WBD execs, are leaving soon too…

Cable is a dying business (Nickelodeon has been mostly "Spongebob" reruns the last few years) but when it comes to streaming most studios aren't investing in animation there much either, meaning the industry is struggling. Mergers like this are only going to make things worse.
