My black She-oak (Allocasuarina littoralis) has developed beautiful bark to replicate that of it's in ground form. The bark is quite brittle & I avoid touching it as it falls away easily. #AustralianNativeBonsais

My Plunket Mallee (Eucalyptus Curtisii) bonsai is shortly to flower. It's had a tortuous life & has been heavily wired to bring it's centre of gravity back to the middle. The heavy rock acts as ballast as it's blown over many a time. I'll post again when it flowers. #AustralianNativeBonsais

My Red Cedar Bonsais (Toona Ciliata) is a forest/waterways tree that has a prized red timber for cabinet making. I bought lockdown tubestock & in 5ys they've flourished. My philosophy is to try to replicate their "in ground" characteristics, ie tall straight trunk. #AustralianNativeBonsais

Had 2 FOIs rejected by the Attorney-General's Dept under the rarely used s26(2) - all docs totally exempt from FOI. The docs relate to interference by the former AG, on two seperate occasions, in the appointment process for NACC Dep Com positions. Have appealed both decisions.

You may need to search this string to reacquaint yourself with my Azalea challenge. I took an old established bush from the garden maybe40+yrs old. This is the one remaining piece in a pot & has flowered. I'll pop it into a Bonsai pot next spring.

We've had a magpie family living in the school yard behind our house for years. Mum is very attentive to the new chicks & will call by early morning & late afternoon for some meat around this time every year. I usually feed her diced kangaroo but shopping day tomorrow. Unusual to see Dad too.

We have a resident Blue Tongue Lizard (Tiliqua scincoides) in our yard. They are an iconic Australian native species & almost completely harmless but great to eat slugs & snails. It's just emerging from It's winter brumation so is sluggish. The tongue photo is a download to show why it's named thus.
