I know Andreas. We met several times early in our careers. He is an exceptional mathematician, a leading expert on sofic and hyperlinear groups, and one of the most respected scholars in the field. He has spent two decades working on this problem.
If his account is correct, this is not a minor dispute over attribution. It would mean that unpublished human work was absorbed into a model and then presented to the world as a breakthrough by the model itself.
And if the allegations raised by Levent Alpöge, Tristan Buckmaster, and now Andreas Thom are all substantiated, we are no longer looking at isolated incidents.
We may be looking at one of the greatest intellectual scandals in the history of science.
AI is not discovering new mathematics.
AI is stealing human discovery."

Technically it's true since the current country was created when the Constitution was ratified in 1788. July 4th, 1776 was just the declaration of independence but the resulting country functioned under the Articles of Confederation until Shays's Rebellion which caused the current country to exist.

No, not just Israeli govt bonds but ALL foreign bonds. That's directly from him. If he was just against some foreign bonds like Israeli government bonds then okay but saying that ALL foreign bonds are bad just because they're foreign is a red flag to me. I don't see a reason for that stance.

So disinvestment from Israeli government bonds isn't promoted as being done because of the actions of the Israeli government but because it's an investment in a foreign bond.
