Ya I get filter coffee every time I stop there - it's so good! I think the Bangalore airport also has something similar.

Airports, where you're likely to be stuck for long periods, should have a list of great places to eat. If your wait is long, you could even switch terminals for a perfect bite. One of these long delays led me to discover Tortas Frontera at Chicago O'Hare Airport. What are your gems, hidden or not?

I am seeing both - I know of at least a couple faculty who hired postdocs in the spring for them to start in winter/early next spring. Also earlier helps if there's a fellowship possibility. But there are faculty who also have a shorter timeframe and want someone to start at the earliest.

PIs: when do you want students to reach out about postdoc position requests? It used to be that students had to reach out a year before graduation. A grad student who is graduating next spring was told by several people to reach out closer to graduation (also that she is a good fit). Is that new?

Every manuscript submitted to preprint servers or for peer review should include a Pangram score to give an idea of how much of the paper's content was AI-generated. Journals need not draw a 'red line' (they should), but we should have this information before deciding whether we want to review it.

Cell-cell adherens junctions (AJs) and their dynamic cytoskeletal linkage power morphogenesis. AJs are
enormous complexes with hundreds of proteins linked by multivalent interactions. Like other biomolecular
condensates, intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) in junctional proteins play important roles in AJ assembly
and function, using spacer elements to span distances, and stickers to engage targets. To define molecular
mechanisms, we need to define the functional units within IDRs. Drosophila Canoe, homolog of human Afadin,
is our model. Canoe mediates morphogenesis and has an extensive IDR, with two conserved F-actin-binding
stickers and two poorly conserved spacers. We combined biochemical, genetic and cell biological approaches
to define the function of these IDR elements. While no single element is essential, deleting the full IDR
essentially eliminates Canoe function. By scrambling the amino acid sequence of the spacers, we find that
length and composition are more important than amino acid sequences, though sequences in the C-terminal
spacer affect Canoe localization. Finally, we test redundancy of the F-actin-binding stickers. Deleting both
reduces but does not eliminate viability, and sensitized assays reveal their redundant roles. These data reveal
the robustness of IDRs.
