The most important thing I learned in my 20s is that being smart doesn't make you special. Eventually you need to learn to try hard and to enjoy learning to do things you're not immediately good at. It turns out that the people who didn't learn this lesson were reading Harry Potter fanfic.

The Fed raised interest rates at every meeting from March 2022 through the midterm election. Also hiked a few times in 2018 before a midterm election. Also hiked every meeting from June 2004 through a presidential election. And the Fed was tightening for all of 1994 prior to a midterm election.

It's a basic thing that no one even bothers to talk about anymore. But he's simply never understood what trade deficits are. Never. When you are getting net investment into your country, you have a trade deficit. But that's good! Trade deficits and surpluses are not inherently good or bad.

Ignoring the fact this is obvious bullshit (as opposed to a lie), if implemented this would instantly grow the 2027 federal deficit from a projected $2.1 trillion (already a great job, MAGA!) to $3.5 trillion. Which, if you were trying to destroy the dollar, would be a great idea. (Oh, wait....)
