Half right, as usual, @nytimes.com. The CFAA is on the books. It’s a criminal statute that applies to hacking. And AI companies want regulation, as they assume they’ll be able to lock out foreign competition. Which is helping to drive down cost for users. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/10/o...

I sometimes have nostalgia (once considered a mental illness) for the brutally utilitarian world of computing this image represents. Then I look at the long and complex supply chain to produce one AMD Zen CPU, look at who’s in charge, and begin to fear a modern version of this may be our future.

Some say the left/right divide is of no interest. But it absolutely is. Neoliberalism's signature is to take the position of the wealthy as a settled matter – it is right-wing because it suppresses any question of inequality...

There are many ways in which every billionaire is a policy failure, but the most corrosive and destructive way in which billionaires are policy failures is this: billionaires, despite being unelected and unaccountable, possess the power to control - and ruin - millions of peoples' lives.

Trump’s attack on ICC is aimed at protecting the US, Israel and Russia from legal accountability. Meanwhile, US, Israeli and Russian disinformation and influence networks are undermining democracy & justice globally, from South America to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and beyond.
A political collage juxtaposing portrait photos of three prominent world leaders with scenes of war devastation and mass graves.
The top half of the image features headshots of three political figures, each wearing a dark suit, white shirt, and red tie:
• Vladimir Putin (President of Russia) on the left, looking slightly away from the camera.
• Benjamin Netanyahu (Prime Minister of Israel) in the center, looking directly forward with a slight smirk.
• Donald Trump (President of the United States) on the right, smiling with an American flag in the background.
Flanking and separating these portraits are small, narrow photos depicting the toll of armed conflict, including heavily bombed buildings, concrete rubble, and distressed civilians holding children.
The bottom half of the image consists of three larger, high-angle and aerial photographs showing the aftermath of casualties:
• On the left, an aerial view of an open field filled with numerous uniform rows of blue or grey tarps or objects.
• In the center, a sandy ground where a group of people stands over a row of bodies wrapped in white burial shrouds.
• On the right, an aerial view of a massive, densely arranged trench or cemetery packed with long rows of graves and crowds of people gathered at the site.

It's true, satellites allow you to connect from anywhere. But at higher latency (time for data to arrive) and lower throughput (amount of data sent per unit of time). My consumer internet is < 5ms latency to my local AWS vs 25-50ms for Starlink. And I get 3-5x the throughput at the same price.

Later, he claimed Mamdani never commented about the recent stabbing of an NYPD detective. Mamdani talked about the stabbing several times, including the below statement where the mayor notes he visited the injured officer:
Earlier today, an off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed several times in the Bronx during what preliminary information indicates was an attempted robbery.

I visited the detective and his family at Jacobi Hospital with Police Commissioner Tisch.

He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery. I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account.
