It occurs to me with the futurists back in the news, no one's posted the Bostrom Singleton thing in which he suggests the solution to the various looming problems of the world is a kind of benign totalitarianism. Bostrom is useful in this stuff for two main reasons. nickbostrom.com/fut/singleton

What is a Singleton?
Introduces the concept of a singleton: a world order capable of robustly solving global coordination problems and choosing the path of its own development.

they're not actually that interested in regulation, they are invested in a personal sense of control over things that sometimes aren't controllable at all! they are going to align with whoever seems to agree most with letting them do what they've already decided to do, which is not consistent

actually Emily Wilson said something yesterday talking about tech bros embracing stoicism that made me think about this—the gist was that they think that they can understand the uncaring nature of the universe but also harness it themselves in a way that provides security for them as an individual

I really think this is a key thing people are missing (aside from the fact that they might be psychologically addicted to the way consuming far-right propaganda makes them feel inside). People are being repeaters or pushers of the stuff into their communities.

One of the goals of the propaganda is to get everybody to talk about far-right culture and far-right culture heroes all the time, to think about these things constantly as if they were the normal mainstream monoculture of society, in place of thinking or talking about anything else.

You can actually control your personal media and information environment. You don’t actually have to subject yourself to face-rolling in a stream of far-right propaganda every day and then spending the day talking about and sharing it with other people. You won’t be missing anything if you stop.

Milo Yiannopoulos: "I didn't really understand the physical reality of how institutionalized the brutality is in America. The manner in which they arrest you, they put you in manacles, everybody is arrested like an MS 13 gang member.
It was physically degrading. It was frightening. I don't think I've ever been frightened like that before. I was weeping like an old woman for an hour. I wouldn't wish it on anyone."

Welp, there it is. The CDC is now officially manipulating data and their count of measles deaths in 2026 now stands at ZERO. My understanding of reportable diseases is that the CDC would usually use a state health department’s determination as the final say. The new CDC Director is failing us.

They'll still throw you in a cage over the tiniest disagreement already forgotten.
