An interesting gambit that is done far, far more successfully in Jackie. In that case the blurring of biopic footage w/ archival footage played an important role in supporting Jackie's thesis about controlling narratives as the main character in the wake of a tragedy of national significance.

Every now and then the film shifts to black and white and it is confounding at first because scenes will start B&W and then transition back to colour with no initially identifiable motivation. And then you notice the stock footage and how the B&W tries to muddle the distinction between the two.

47) Thirteen Days. Fascinating movie. A meat and potatoes political thriller that is largely taught and tense for the most part. Being a pre-9/11 thriller it dips into a schmaltziness that is missing from American cinema. Boy Scout-esque do-gooderism framing. Real time capsule that way.
