Late sharing this, but what’s a month after a few decades of waiting? Thanks to the efforts of @niema.net we’ve finally got a way to decode the Nintendo GameCube .VID codec! More info to come soon, plus an interview with Niema about his work! Thanks so much for all the help!

That’s not just a good title slide for a presentation, this absolute legend just delivered an entire presentation rhymed exactly like a Dr Seuss book. Anyone know any illustrators who can draw in the Seuss style? This deserves to be illustrated and printed. Well done, Ethan!

Thank you Phil, not only for a great talk but for the added reassurance that prioritization of your time and getting things “good enough” is ok! Perfection can be the enemy of progress, and we all have a lot of things to balance! Also that Pokémon card is top notch 🏆

A slide titled "Case study: I am not manually converting 120 QuarkXPress files." Images in the slide include the Always Sunny meme of "I've had enough of this dude" with a picture of Quark from Star Trek; and a QuarkXPress for Dummies book with the Dummies mascot saying "Yes... ha ha ha... YES!"

*36th birthday (released in 1990) But yeah, Solstice rules! One of those childhood "enigma games" that I took the time to finally learn and play through more recently (with hand-drawn maps). Cool to see in-development footage! Also, amazing Japanese box art by Naoyuki Katoh:
Mysterious wizard stands powerfully, ominously, in the center of a surreal, brutalist labyrinth.

Sure wish it was only 26 years old, that could have been a typo or an unconscious rejection of the passage of time. Maybe both! 😅

36th anniversary, not 26th! Clearly we’re still in denial regarding the passage of time, and may remain so for awhile 😅. Also while we’re here, it seems the Player’s Pak was free with shipping from the magazine ad, no game purchase required!

Sony Imagesoft was savvy though, they also provided an option for customers to have an additional copy of the Player's Pak mailed to a friend for just the cost of shipping! Clever marketing idea, but how many people do you think got the Player's Pak that way? $3.50 in 1990 spent like $10 does today!

There is my life before Bastion and after Bastion, which made its debut on Xbox Live Arcade 20 July 2011. Without it, Supergiant Games doesn't exist. I recorded the game's 3000ish lines of VO here in Darren Korb's bedroom over the course of about 14 months. Happy 15 to our scrappy little video game.

In addition to behind the scenes and interview content, the disc also contained screenshots, desktop wallpaper, and even a Windows screensaver...and better still, the screensaver still works! Ok sure, it's more of a glorified flash banner advertisement, but hey, it was free!

Furthermore, some GCN discs held video files that were never meant to be accessible! For instance, this segment of the Rebirth animation hidden in the demo build of Star Fox Adventures on the July 2002 Gamecube US kiosk disc! Native .VID decoding will make it easier to search for stuff like this!
