Students in Gaza ‘devastated’ after plan for them to study in Belgium fails
Belgian government unable to agree on evacuation of 13 students to take up scholarships at universities Students who are unable to leave Gaza and take up scholarships at Belgian universities have said they are devastated after Belgium’s government hit deadlock on a plan enabling them to leave the war-torn territory. Ahmed Abujami, a 28-year-old doctor in Gaza, said he was “deeply disappointed” after Belgium’s five-party coalition government last Friday failed to agree on an evacuation plan for 13 students and researchers in the territory. Abujami has a scholarship to do a one-year master’s degree in public health at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. He hopes to gain skills and experience to rebuild Gaza’s shattered health system. Continue reading...

A massive immigration operation is happening in Memphis. It’s been underway for just under a year now—hundreds of arrests, streets filled with officers. But most people have never heard of it. Why? It’s harder to record ICE in Tennessee than it is in many states.

NEW: ICE data released under the Freedom of Information Act reveals that more than half of all ICE arrests are now people with no criminal record; no prior convictions or pending charges. In the first week of August, 55% of all ICE arrests were of people with no criminal record.
Chart showing monthly ICE arrests by criminal record, January 2025 through July 2026. The chart shows total ICE arrests rising steadily from January 2025, then peaking and falling from January 2026 to February 2026, stabilizing, then rising again in June and July to record levels. Meanwhile, the composition of ICE arrests becomes more and more weighted towards people with no criminal record, and in July 2026, the majority are people with no criminal record.

The Cybertruck had a sales.target of 250k in its first year. They sold around 40k, the next year they sold about half as many.
