Good piece. On the Telegraph/Times being misled about Reform/Verbatim paying for the poll. If someone came up to me and said I've got a poll and I'd like it to form the basis of some research, my first question would be 'why' and my second would be 'who paid for it'.

The lesson being: if you view all first- and second-generation children as the problem, it's still a problem if they do better or worse. The educational version of 'immigrants are taking all the jobs and living on welfare'.

But this is the actual snobbery! Telling kids that where they grow up should dictate their education, opportunities AND adult life destination is the worst kind of “stay in your place” anti-aspirationalism.

A particularly extreme example here of “The lads only see what they want to see”. If they want to see e.g. a black academic who they think is proof of the Tyranny Of Woke Conspiring Against Whiteness, up it goes on all channels. If they don’t want to know, it may as well have happened on Ganymede.

It’s just depressing. Further education has been cut to ribbons. Higher education is in crisis. Labour turns its eyes to the bit of the education system which is turning out the highest literacy rates in the western world and goes “that’s the bit that needs to change”

The BBC and other broadcasters have swallowed the right's small boat invasion narrative hook, line and sinker. They have no interest in reporting a fall in crossings - especially as the weather cannot be blamed. Normal service will be resumed if numbers start rising again.

This is so, so bad. She’s taken the very narrow point that domestic drilling may result in oil and gas with a slightly lower carbon footprint than some imports and extrapolated it out to make sweeping claims about UK emissions increasing that are entirely false. So deeply unserious.
