You will read a lot about the youth voting disproportionately for the far right again. But the data do not support this generational stereotyping and moral panic. Also not in Saxony-Anhalt.

My copies of "Youth Wings of the Populist Radical Right" finally made it to Australia. It's always nice to see the physical copy of your book. Especially when the journey from idea to publication took over a decade. I'm glad we persevered though, as I'm very proud of this. 🧵A wee thread below...

For decades, youth wings rarely got more than a footnote in studies of party organisation, despite their importance for both the present and futures of parties. Now, there's an increasing amount of good work coming out about them, including this new study by the stars of Aarhus ⬇️

Politics is often said to need renewal. But where do young politicians get elected, and where does the door start to close? Patrícia and I look at this question in Portugal. Young people are not absent from politics. But the path becomes much narrower as offices become more executive and national.

This piece makes good points but also common mistakes: 1. Gender gap among youth is because left-wing turn of women, not right-wing turn of men. 2. Young men are not the core of far-right support. 3. ’Modern sexism’ is less about Rogan-Tate toxic masculinity than about perceived discrimination.
