Trying to hurt trans people when they've borne the brunt of Trumpism's extreme agenda for the past two years (alongside immigrants and Black Americans) is also a choice in the part of certain Democrats.

People are unwilling to acknowledge just how big a role compartmentalization plays in the lives of bigots and white supremacists. "One of the good ones" is an all-important distinction to these fuckers. "I don't even think of you as another race" is their highest compliment.

One easy but important thing you can do this Banned Books Week (or at any time of the year) is to write a postcard or email to your local librarians and thank them for supporting diverse books. This came up in a panel I was on tonight, and the librarians confirmed they don't hear enough of this.

Speaking as a parent, what I want is for my kids to be happy and healthy. If that means being far away from me, so be it. Any parent who demands their kids sacrifice themself to please Mom and Dad has failed as a parent, IMO, and I hope their kids get far, far away.

Abusive parents discover their adult children will not allow them to fuck up their grandkids, immediately whine to the state about how they are being robbed. Republicans, the small government party, pledge to help those abusers continue the cycle.

From a simply outstanding glass plate negative in my collection. No date/info.
Photo of a shorthaired grey cat sitting up on an overturned white parasol on top of a light colored rock. A white sheet is draped behind it. It seems clear that this was all arranged deliberately to gather light for this very successful photo shoot of the cat.

Please remember that for every VE Schwab and Stephen King, there are a lot of banned Black, queer, and POC writers you've never heard of, to whom it is maybe not a badge of honor but a denial of their voice. Being banned is not a marketing opportunity, unless one is already rich.

The way the Cornell victim is being publicly disbelieved by a lot of journalists, officials, and online posters is also a warning shot to every other victim not to dare to actually pursue a case against your rapist lest you suffer the same fate. It’s a means of protecting the status quo

for the first time since tracking began, more American households have kittens than puppies. there is a reason for this: homeownership is declining, and homeowners are twice as likely as renters to own dogs. did cats engineer the housing crisis? i'll be honest: it is now more likely than not.

respectfully, you are absolutely wrong. being banned is *always* bad for authors, even in the EXCEEDINGLY rare case that they make some list that people go to. because the goal is for most of us that KIDS have access. and ANY kid that doesn't is an arrow straight thunk to my heart
I still remember when getting banned in visiting on your book cover was a guarantee of extra sales. this is different, but I think there is still some merit in being banned. it depends on who's going the banning and why

Not the least bit surprising but still extremely grim to read. time.com/article/2026...
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.
